I have been starting works on the next next squirrel book. Celebration Squirrels the second which will be called ‘Warm’.

I just started doing a bunch of rough ideas and NOW I SHOW YOU THEM I SHOW THEM TO YOUR EYES AND YOUR FACE. And your little beating bird heart.

You may or may not knows that Celebration Squirrels are really good at knitting. They do it in teams, holding the long knitting needles between them and one shouting instructions with a tiny megaphone much like people when they row row row. Whilst they are very good at knitting, they are less good at knowing human sizings.

I had this idea that the squirrels made big vats of winter stew and fed all the woodland animals but I don't think that will be in the book. But I like the idea of them doing that. Winter squirrel soup kitchen for lost Christmas animals.

I had ideas of squirrels wanting to keep your mittens warm so they get in them to warm them up but they are so cosy that they fall asleep and then when you see them sleeping they are so sweet that you leave them there and go out with cold hands. I like the idea of one of them with just legs sticking out, or an x-ray of how how the squirrel fit curled up inside.

THIS IS MY FAVOURITE because it is MY FAVOURITE thing to do and it's the SQUIRRELS FAVOURITE THING TO DO when it is cold and and you build a massive duvet nest and get in it and read all the books. Maybe the giant duvet nest will have legs and feet sticking out at odd places. It sort of looks like a big wad of gum. A wad of gum with squirrels stuck in.

celebration squirrels

The other day I was boredly and I was somewhere with a weird round book of paper so I drew a squirrel trying to persuade Osley that he should watch Twin Peaks, because no-one can resist a Celebration Squirrel. Either they make you so excited that you get caught up in excites or you cannot refuse them for for you do not wish to see their tiny crestfallen faces.

THEN ANOTHER DAY WAS A HORRIBLE DAY and having shared the above with facebooks I asked people for Celebration Squirrel requests because instead of sitting being very sad and ill injured I just wanted to draw squirrels. All day. AND SO IT WAS AND BECAME.

THIS FIRSTLY is for my friendling Jessine, she likes teeth A LOT. A LOT OF TEETH she likes them. These squirrelses are friends and sometimes they curl up together using their tails as pillows. The little squirrel is trying to encourage the big one to get on the tooth so they can twirl each other round pedestal like, but the big one is dubious about balancing. 

This next is for Natalie, who also also from the seahorses before, remember? She used to call me dusty moth princess so and her request was for a ‘love missive’ so this is what she gotses. I am excited because now I can draw moths, it took some times. I like that their crowns are floating. The squirrel does not even really see the acorn gift, it stares into moth eyes all loves. Later it will see the acorn in it’s room, suddenly recognise it, and it will remember and be warm.

THIS IS FOR JESS, sheeeee she has a SQUIRREL tattoo that IS CALLED Chocolate Faced Herbert and it really does have a world in it’s belly. She wanted a friend for Herbert so here is one in a treehole. It looks like it is saying it is late and come in for dinner. Dinner is down in the tree, somewhere. IF NOT THAT then that treehole squirrel might be a handpuppet. Operated by another squirrel. Maybe a puppet with sticks. I don’t know. Then there is a party.

Thises for Christian who who is a blacksmiths and wanted something ‘blacksmithy’. It is hard being a squirrel blacksmith because your whiskers get singed and you can never turn sideways lest your tail catches on fire. This squirrel is very wise old. Like maybe 88. He holds a lot of the squirrel history but if you want to gets it you have to hang out next to the forge and sweat sweat as he tells you slow, and the background of the story is the hammering sounds. But then you know the things. I don’t think he comes out of his forge place, everywhere else is too cold now.

This lastest is for Ruth but but I didn’t know what to draw for Ruth and I was running out of brain. That wampire squirrel is real thin and haggard looking because it is only a new wampire and it is not good at wampiring at all. ZERO GOOD at it. Mostly it is just a bother. And it can’t fly good yet because it’s cape is crappy and it has no controls so flails about like a daddy long legs, failing to keep hypnotisms eye contact. Probably the other squirrels feel a bit sorry for it and leave it acorn cups of berry juice places. And it is ok.
