frogs that are dissatisfied

I have not updated in a really long time but I want to need to start again.

While I make some more draws and photograph ones done HERE ARE TWO FROGS. They are really just not pleased at all. Really, really glum.

It is not moving. It is being very still. It maybe does not want to move again ever. Maybe another frog will come nudge food at it's mouth and it will just be like. No.

Either this is another glum frog or it is just the same first frog but turned towards you because it feels you should know exactly how glum it is so it does a stare into your eyes.

There. Now you are knowing.

sad tortoise face

HELLO. it has been a very long time.

This is because I have not been great and found it hard to draw a happy thing and put happiness into it but then I realised that the drawings MAKE happy and put the happy into ME so actually. I had got it all wrong. And it is time to draws again.

This is the last thing I drew WHICH I FEELS WELL CONVEYS MY FEELINGS. There are not many things sadder than a sad tortoise. Especially considering guess what the other day I saw a video of a tortoise that was 185 years old and it looked pretty sad AND IMAGINE HOW IMMENSE AND SAD THE SADNESS OF A 185 YEAR OLD TORTOISE IS. It has seen many things. What things in all those things moved it to the sad.

Who can say.

This tortoise is not that old. It is only 10 or something. It’s just sad because it feels a bit bads probably. Maybe it’s not very good at hibernating and it feels it should be. Who can say. It won’t tell. So it’s hard. To know. Maybe it doesn’t like it’s tail and even though it can’t really see it it bothers it. Knowing it is there. Knowing others can see it. Maybe it doesn’t like that it has a weird shell skeleton and it’s fleshy bits are joined onto it’s bony bits and everyone can touch both. Unless it hides, maybe that is why they can hide.

they float

I do not have so many words to go with this one. Except I want to make cards of it. To go in my shop. It is enough, what it makes with it’s lines. Just simple day, with balloons. Just going about business. With balloons. Trudging home. With balloons. Going up the stairs. With balloons. Going to sleep. With balloons. Some string in your hand as you fall asleep, the balloon quietly floats. Floats floats floats. They float.

future books

I have been starting works on the next next squirrel book. Celebration Squirrels the second which will be called ‘Warm’.

I just started doing a bunch of rough ideas and NOW I SHOW YOU THEM I SHOW THEM TO YOUR EYES AND YOUR FACE. And your little beating bird heart.

You may or may not knows that Celebration Squirrels are really good at knitting. They do it in teams, holding the long knitting needles between them and one shouting instructions with a tiny megaphone much like people when they row row row. Whilst they are very good at knitting, they are less good at knowing human sizings.

I had this idea that the squirrels made big vats of winter stew and fed all the woodland animals but I don't think that will be in the book. But I like the idea of them doing that. Winter squirrel soup kitchen for lost Christmas animals.

I had ideas of squirrels wanting to keep your mittens warm so they get in them to warm them up but they are so cosy that they fall asleep and then when you see them sleeping they are so sweet that you leave them there and go out with cold hands. I like the idea of one of them with just legs sticking out, or an x-ray of how how the squirrel fit curled up inside.

THIS IS MY FAVOURITE because it is MY FAVOURITE thing to do and it's the SQUIRRELS FAVOURITE THING TO DO when it is cold and and you build a massive duvet nest and get in it and read all the books. Maybe the giant duvet nest will have legs and feet sticking out at odd places. It sort of looks like a big wad of gum. A wad of gum with squirrels stuck in.

meese and creatures

HELLO i am very sorry of sorry for being away from your face eyes so long because of the because-ing which is that I am making a little book (of squirrels) and even though when you see it you will be like HOW DID THIS TAKE SO LONG because it is small draws of draw but there are so many VERY BORING BITS of printing things and smallnesses foldings and and. ugh. 

BUT IT IS NEARLY DONE it is nearly done and you will see it and get to hold it if you want.

Yesterday I gave myself times off to just pootle about with pens and draw some meese. I’ve drawn meese before but these ones are different.

BEHOLD THE MEESE.

This mouse is very scared of getting found by humans seen by people and snatched so it always walks on tiptoes. Tippy tap toes. And it’s tail gets all frazzled tense from stress, and it’s whiskers twitch and ears stretch reach to hear for any noise and then it gets so tired from being alert that it falls asleep in some Brie. 

OH GOD I LOVE THIS ONE look at it’s little face and imagine it sniffling snuffling nuzzle it into your ear while it sits on your shoulder. You stroke it’s head and it’s beady eyes bead at you all bulges.

I don’t know. This ones all wrong isn’t it. It’s ears are on it’s sides and it’s tail is so longly it will get stuck trapped in all the doors and under jars of jam that it just tried to climb it. Sticky jam climber.

THEN I DREW THIS WEIRD BIG FRIENDLY GUY TALKING TO A SQUIRREL

I don’t know what they are talking about. The squirrel is probably being anxious and talking about some worries in the forest and the big friendly guy is like it’s ok squirrel and the squirrel is like but the things the things the things what will be done and the big friendly guy is like it’s ok squirrel it will be ok.

jumpers for fingers and thumbs

FIRSTLY FIRSTLING here is some squirrels doing some makings in strange lights.

These ones are doing knitting. There is another nearby somewhere giving them instructings, the nearby one is standing on a pile of books with a rolled up piece of shiny card that it is using as a shouty cone. When it is distracted these squirrels, which are not the most naturally co-operative of all the squirrels, use those knitting needles for tiny sword fight joust. And try try not to drop stitches. If they drop stitches shouty squirrel has to come over and fix and first it just looks and sniffles it with whiskers and uses tiny paws to scry for the lost.

Here is the makings of the knittings, a tiny jumper, a tiny jumper for you. Know that it has been touched by many whiskers, and that it will never fit except on your pinkie finger but it is very much kind misguided loving gestures of warmth.

One day maybe you will have one on each finger. Warmth wrong gloves, little sleeves flinging themselves about empty, squirrels looking pleased proud.

THOSE pictures are are from plan practice for a tiny book with story that I have not finished yet but that will exist in the soon.

THEN AND NOW I am experimenting making badges. This is the firstest one I have ever made and I did not know if I liked it until the firstest person that saw it said I WANT ONE IS THIS ONE FOR ME IT IS FOR ME. And now it is theirs. I’m trying to work out how to scan and print things so I can put some complicated ones (like manatees) on there, in the small space, this one was just handly drawn.

I like the idea that that box is permanent waiting potential. It can't ever be opened but it might always maybe have whatever you need want in it. The things you need want exist and are close close but not yet, but they are. And waiting to be given by squirrels with slightly anxious tails and bobbed heads, waiting to paw over and see see what you think, and ready for the  then possible droop of whiskers or the perk of tail. There are people that give, kind ones. Quietly loving you.

So soon there will be badges and books for you to get with your pennies and keep should you want to. Poke at me for requestings also if wanted want.
