Bodily sensations
Over summer somebody I met at a networking event had quite an interesting idea about sensory information and suggested that it constitutes a form of feedback.
I’ve been thinking about this lately. At different times I’ve been aware of how fitbit feels on my wrist. Sometimes I’ll be more aware of it than other times. When I first got it, it always felt fairly damp and cold after a shower. I hated it but now I barely notice it. Sometimes I’ll fiddle with the strap and it will feel loose or tight on my wrist. When I charge it my wrist knows its not there.
Then there’s how it feels when i tap it or when others do (e.g., small children and Mr Love). Talking of which, I threw a mini strop the other day because Mr Love tapped my wristband and only .5 out of 5 lights flashed up and I said crossly, "Well, when do you think I've had time to do any exercise I've been at my computer addressing reviewer comments since I woke up"). I was surprised at how annoyed I was. This suggests that perhaps I care more about the flashing lights than I wish to let on...!
Other times I’ll accidentally nudge it and out of the corner of my eye see the feedback lights flashing. When I achieve my step goal fitbit gets all excited and performs a celebratory vibration combined with flashing disco lights.
