236 days until camp, but who's counting? #ohwaitiam #celiaccamp #camp2017
Safe to say that I could not be more proud of these young women, and I've had the pleasure of watching them grow up from wee maple babies back in 2010 to fantastic counselors this summer. They are truly amazing girls and I can't wait to see how much you all grow in the next year 💛 #celiac #celiacs #celiaccamp
Today I spent the day with some of my best friends, helping my favorite foundation raise over $1,000,000 to send kids with chronic illnesses and special needs to camp for FREE. Thanks to the Taylor family foundation for all that they do, I seriously can't even thank them enough in words, they have forever changed my life. They are the best most amazing group of people who better the lives of thousands of kids who would never be able to go to a summer camp without them. They made me feel normal for the first time in my life. Elaine Surdin- Taylor has done extraordinary things and I'm forever changed for the better thanks to her amazing work. To my Celiac Camp fam-thanks for putting on an amazing flash mob/dance/whatever you call it, and to the amazing donors-thank you for choosing to spend your money on us kids, we forever appreciate you. I will NEVER stop believing in this place! #ttff #taylorfamilyfoundation #celiac #celiacs #celiaccamp #dayinthepark
Celiac Camp 2015 Part 1
Hello,
I have recently just returned from Celiac Camp about a week ago. Even though my previous blog said that I would cover “the next portion of our trip”, that specific blog post will be addressed and published after I finish discussing and explaining what I did at Celiac Camp at Camp Arroyo. This camp is sponsored by the fabulous Taylor Family Foundation.
On the first day of camp, I unloaded all of the necessary essentials that should be removed from the bag and stored in the correct location. At camp, we sleep in cabins and there are 12 beds per cabin. There are also 12 cabins- Walnut, Alder, Madrone, Redbud(Boys), Sycamore, Buckeye, Willow, Cottonwood, Pine, Blue Oak, Maple, and Bay Laurel(Girls). The cabin I was in was Alder, which has an age range for boys from 12- early 14 years old. When I got to my cabin, we had to eat dinner. The meal all of the cabins ate at dinner was Chipotle with S'mores (Sponsors: Mariposa & Dr. Schar) and Red Velvet Cupcakes (Sponsors: Miglets). Straight after dinner, all of the cabins did a scavenger hunt for 45 minutes trying to find 4 items on the list and to practice a mandatory cabin cheer. We all saw what the other cabins put together and when it ended, it was time to go to bed.
On the next day of camp, my cabin got up very early because it was our turn to set up breakfast including the silverware and dishes for the other cabins. Some of the people in my cabin wanted to do yoga, which was optional and started at 6:45 AM. At 8 o'clock, the cabins ate breakfast. There were pancakes (Sponsors: Birch Benders), Bacon and Sausage (Sponsors: Jones Dairy Farm), Cereal (Sponsors: Natures Path), and Oatmeal (Sponsors: Bob’s Red Mill) along with Fresh Fruit. Our cabin along with 3 other cabins went to the meadow, while the others were on the Rope’s Course. We stayed there until 10:30, but our cabin and Walnut went to a Music class.
Next was lunch. There were Chicken Strips with Grilled Cheese (Sponsors: Daiya Foods and Bacano), Roasted Tomato Basil Soup (Sponsors: Boulder Soup Works), Ice Cream (Sponsors: Julie’s, Coconut Bilss, and NadaMoo), and Dairy/Egg-Free Cookies (Sponsors: Miglets). After lunch, my cabin made action figures out of many different figures, went swimming in the pool, and practiced our mandatory skit that was going to be performed after dinner. Next was dinner. There were Turkey, Mashed Potatoes, Veggies, Stuffing, Tossed Green Salad, Pumpkin Pie, and Vegan Apple Cranberry Pie (All sponsored by Miglets). After that was Skit Night, where we performed all of our Cabin Skits (and there was also gluten-free complimentary PopCorn). After that was the optional Talent Show. There were many acts and by the time it was over, it was almost midnight and we ended Day Two of Celiac Camp.
My next blog post will cover the next half of Celiac Camp.
