Just read your old post on On Building Sandcastles: The Life & Times of the Speculative Fanfic on finishing HWPOV and s2. I read the fic and watched all of s2 (borrowed from a friend) at around the same time. For better or worse they've become intertwined and merged and sometimes I can't remember if a scene is from your fic as it played in my mind or canon. Anyway, I love the story lots. <3

That’s wonderful to hear! For better or for worse, indeed. It seems fitting that for you fantasy and reality have merged into a single S2 hybrid mutant — that’s very Hannibal. The Sandcastles essay was my way of wrestling with my fears that S2 would premiere and — poof — my fic would be vaporized, forgotten. It’s very reassuring that HWPOV doesn’t appear to have suffered that fate. I look back at that essay now and think, oh you, stop worrying so much. Certainly it helps that I’m writing a sequel; that’s me doing my part to keep the original’s memory alive. Ironic, considering the sequel is all about the mutability and untrustworthiness of memory!

No argument from me, and if the article is any indication it's about to get eviller (the article is about how Moynihan is poised on the brink of making BofA super profitable again), I just. That's the opening paragraph. It's not even that he's dull and unattractive; it's that he's explicitly compared to his charismatic, attractive arch-rival. 

And I had a moment of "well, looks like my morning could be shittier, it could be this guy's."

This looks really interesting! Sadly I can't beta because 1.Have a specific vision of bat-crew and would have trouble doing beta if you had a diff one 2. I'm not really a great beta anyway!

No worries! <3 By "I got real tired" I mostly mean "I am a fussy shit when it comes to my writing" so worry not about it. This story is sort of going to be my construction of my 3298619 headcanons for these folk and I don't know if it'll be anyone's cup of tea, but I'm excited.

bwhahaha! <3 I also loved what Tony said about the Avengers making repaying his debt a joy. For all the crackiness I love the oldskool feel of this :DD

I think crack and oldskool go well together. Somehow the ridiculousness of some of what the Avengers do is made less absurd by the fact that they're all so Sixties and wholesome. Like Tony saying "fucking" is downright scandalous -- somehow it makes the stupid flirting more fun. 

I love the idea that Jan worked it out super-early, though it does run into some snafus with Canon (she dated Tony for a while and was SUPER-betrayed when she found out he was Iron Man and hadn't told her).

I think Fraction has a humiliation/subordination kink. I swear he did other things to Tony that made me think this and I am not just making it up.

Ever since I realised that they could see me I've stopped speculating about the kinks of writers I admire :D But humiliation is basically a part of Tony's story. Whether or not Fraction is into that, this one didn't start with him.

I think the trend starts with Demon In A Bottle, but there is a long, terrible history of Tony being privately shamed and publicly humiliated and coming back from it to destroy his enemies. It's the phoenix metaphor thing, I think. Fraction was very, very good at looking at what had come before, plucking out the tropes, and doing interesting new spins on them.

One of the handful of reasons I skipped a lot of Iron Man comics when I was doing an epic readthrough of them was that I couldn't deal with the public humiliation angle.
