In May 2019, the Leinster rugby team thundered out ‘Celtic Symphony’ on the plane home from their victory over Glasgow Warriors. I didn’t know this until a few months ago, but I know now it is a song about a sailor who is walking through Glasgow and is describing graffiti on a wall as he passes it.
"Attacking working-class soccer girls is part of it.”
This was a very unfortunate and annoying story that took focus away from the Irish women's national football team who qualified for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup. However my favourite part is when the "offending" traditional Irish song "Celtic Symphony" went to #3 on the iTunes chart the week after the silly controversy.
