“I just don’t know what to do..”
Seunghyun sat next to Jinri with his hand in his lap and his eyes downcast, staring at the rubble on the ground, the little white stones that made up the driveway. He didn’t know what to say or do or how to help her. He didn’t think he really could help her. Fuck, he was so bad at this. He didn’t know how to have friends who were girls, it was just so hard. But then now that he thought about it, the guys he knew weren’t all that better…
He actually expected Jinri’s demon Lili to show up any moment now, despite the fact that Seunghyun didn’t really want to talk to that side of her. He like how Jinri actually was without the demon- but that was his stance on everything. He just didn’t like demons, despite being half of one. “You’re… You’re going to be okay though…” he wished his voice sounded stronger and more assured, but really, he wasn’t. And he was a shit liar.
He looked up at her to see how his words might have affected her, but she didn’t seem phased at all. Like she hadn’t even heard him. “Jinri?” He leaned closer to her and nudged her shoulder lightly. “I promise okay? I’ll look out for you…”
“I don’t need you to.” Her voice was quiet, on the verge of tears and something else. She was about to shut down and let the demon take over, he could feel it. He didn’t want that to happen.
“I do. Jinri, look at me.” He ducked his head towards her to try and catch her attention and when she finally did skirt her gaze up at him, he put his hands on her shoulders and kissed her square on the mouth. It wasn’t romantic or light or feathery, it wasn’t meant to cause any sort of inner turmoil inside either of them. It was just a hard peck on the lips, something to jolt her out of her dwindling thoughts and bring her attention back onto him. She stared up at him but his worried, furrowed eyebrows reassured her of their friendship. “I promise you. I will make sure you’re okay.”
“Are you the demon now? Making a contract by kiss?”
He paused a moment, his lips twitching into a smile he was trying to keep down. “I- yes. Yes. We’ve kissed, now you have to be my friend forever. End of story.”
