it's violently raining right now, and i'm sitting wrapped in a blanket studying statistical physics (i have the window open so i can hear the rain noises.... it may be my fault i'm cold, but where did summer go???)
i cannot believe i'm nearly done with 3rd year!!! i'm pretty excited for it to be over, it's been the hardest year of uni by a lot, and i haven't had the best time. but lots of good things have happened too, my exams have been going well despite the lack of time i've had to study, and i'm looking forward to having a break, doing more summer research, and getting to my final year!

it rained so heavily all day (and i got very soggy). i got coffee and hung out with someone i met through a friend. we chatted about physics and things which was really nice! i've made progress on my poster but i'm relieved i have a meeting with my supervisor for some advice next week.
...and i am ill, again 😔 i've been drinking many litres of lemon and ginger tea, which is hopefully helping a little?
other than that, i'm having a great time! i got an email telling me my supervisor nominated me for an award from the uni's summer research program that i did! i got to read what he wrote and it was so incredibly nice of him, i'm still not over it. the whole project has helped my confidence so much, and i feel like i can see a real future for me in physics research :')
also, our lecturer was quickly telling us about quantum field theory, and how you'd never have to seriously deal with it. unless you're planning to do a phd in theoretical physics, apparently (cue all my friends giving me a look)
i've just finished my 3rd year of uni in the uk, studying for a theoretical physics mphys
i'm queer/sapphic, my pronouns are they/she, & i'm autistic
looking for more study blogs to follow! :) (especially physics & maths related)
i am so bad at being active on here but sometimes i return for a while!!!
current goals/tasks: survived the rest of third year without totally losing it! study for my exams (5/5 done!), prepare for summer research project (linear algebra & mathematica practice), do summer placement (& have fun?!), read that long review paper for my final year project next year (!!!), start thinking seriously about phd plans?!!

STUDY!
i did a summer research project at my uni, in quantum physics. it was so interesting and i absolutely loved it! so i think i want to continue with physics (probably quantum!) research in the future.
my third year project was on neutrino oscillations! it's a very cool area (and i'll probably keep checking up on it forever!!) but i don't think neutrino/particle physics is quite for me.
GOALS!
i want to look and apply for another summer project for 2026. success! i will be having a go at some quantum foundations this summer :D
i'm very sure now that i want to do a phd after my integrated masters. i need to research my options more seriously!
i want to continue working at a first, and score as high as i can in my exams
INTERESTS!
some favourite bands: mcr, paramore, fall out boy, hayley williams, american football, pierce the veil, the brobecks, pinkshift, black polish
favourite books: the locked tomb series!!!!!! plain bad heroines, project hail mary, other sci fi/horror/fantasy/etc books (please give me recs!!)
other favourites: doctor who, star wars, tma & chnt podcasts, les mis and maths & physics of course :)
i also love travelling (especially on trains!) and getting to know new places, as well as cooking/baking, cafes & coffee, going on walks, and learning lots of different instruments!
i guess i am making a post! i've had an interesting semester (aka: i think i burnt myself out pretty badly during january exams.... at least they went well??). anyway, i've done my coursework, finished my research project & handed in my dissertation (!!), and generally survived everything the past few months has thrown at me (barely 😔)
(pictured: linear algebra notes & the maxwell's equations plaque!! and maxwell too i guess.)
♪ ASSIGNMENT - power snatch
in other news, i attended my first (undergrad) conference to present my summer research project poster!! it was really cool to meet everyone there and talk lots about my work :)) but the linkedin networking culture exhausts me, i had to take quite a few breaks.
on top of that, i'm getting to do my master's project next year with my supervisor from the summer project & in the same kind of area!!! i absolutely love quantum theory and my supervisor is genuinely the best so i've been out of my mind with excitement at that!!!!! :D
i've done my first exam, just some physics problem solving which i think went pretty well! the goal now is to study as much as i can without feeling awful and just continue surviving, i guess! i have four more in the next couple of weeks... then i'll be done with third year?!!
i now know what project i'll be doing this year and it's about neutrinos! very cool, it was my first choice (which i made impulsively, but still). i actually studied a lot today even though i had no lectures, so hopefully i can keep this up throughout the semester. it'll definitely make exam season much easier.....
pictured: this amazing sardine pasta i made it was literally so good. i love cooking!!! also the sun was out?? i've been making the most of that whenever it happens and going on very fun walks.
i can't believe november is nearly over, i'm trying to avoid thinking about christmas until then... it's been so cold (and dark so early 😔) but we haven't even had any snow (yet?)
i'm done with most of my coursework for this semester! now there's only 1 homework, a mock job interview, and lots of lectures which feels very chill, yay! also, i finally got to start doing some coding for my project! it's pretty simple so far, but i've really missed doing python :)
