i'm in my 3rd year of uni in the uk, studying for a theoretical physics mphys
i'm queer/sapphic, my pronouns are they/she, & i'm autistic
looking for more study blogs to follow! :) (especially physics & maths related)
i am so bad at being active on here but sometimes i return for a while!!!
current goals/tasks: survive the rest of third year without totally losing it.... study for my exams (2/5 done!), read that long review paper for my final year project next year (!!!), start thinking seriously about phd plans?!!
currently reading: bury your gays - chuck tingle

STUDY!
i did a summer research project at my uni, in quantum physics. it was so interesting and i absolutely loved it! so i think i want to continue with physics (probably quantum!) research in the future.
my third year project was on neutrino oscillations! it's a very cool area (and i'll probably keep checking up on it forever!!) but i don't think neutrino/particle physics is quite for me.
GOALS!
i want to look and apply for another summer project for 2026. success! i will be having a go at some quantum foundations this summer :D
i'm very sure now that i want to do a phd after my integrated masters. i need to research my options more seriously!
i want to continue working at a first, and score as high as i can in my exams (i should study more consistently.....
INTERESTS!
some favourite bands: mcr, paramore, fall out boy, hayley williams, american football, pierce the veil, the brobecks, pinkshift, black polish
favourite books: the locked tomb series!!!!!! plain bad heroines, project hail mary, other sci fi/horror/fantasy/etc books (please give me recs!!)
other favourites: doctor who, star wars, tma & chnt podcasts, les mis and maths & physics of course :)
i also love travelling (especially on trains!) and getting to know new places, as well as cooking/baking, cafes & coffee, going on walks, and learning lots of different instruments!
okay mathematical physics tomorrow i have to do so well for this one. it's my Thing i need to be one with the linear algebra for the rest of my (hopefully quantum filled) career and it allllll starts here. yay matrices!!!!!!!
Academic update: I finally received an interview for a FAANG+ company at a point in my academic career where I feel that I could possibly pass, so it's time to get on with the coding prep again. I'm gonna start from the top of the Neetcode 150 list and document every single problem I do in a spreadsheet
Life update: I went out to dinner with my boyfriend then discovered I was sick when I got home, so I've done nothing but sleep and drink lots of fluids to recover
Every time I look at my thesis project I find a different issue in which fixing it would make me have to change at least three sections so yeah. That's fun. I thought I was done with the intro but now that I'm getting all the pieces together they just!! don't fit!! so I need to fix them!!
I also tried to fix my sleep schedule last night and slept for 9 hours, BUT I felt half-awake for all of those and was drifting in and out of a light nightmare. CAN I LIVE CAN I JUST LI-
On a side note. I saw a toucan and those have a really funny way of flying. Say hi to him on the second pic :)
visited the second mandatory tutorial session for my literature class, then sought shelter in the psych library as it has an ac, before returning to my beloved humanities library. read 30 pages for tomorrows seminar & wrote the first draft of a short story - still have to type it into an actual document.
It's been a while, huh? My god I did not expect this semester to take my soul away like this. I'm doing well, I've taken up bouldering (I am terrible at it, but I can feel muscles on my arms with just one session!!!! Amazing feeling ngl) and its so fun! Good luck to my exams idk how they'll go, but we wait and see, I guess.
If anyone is watching Ticket to Heaven or When Oranges Fall plsplsplspls talk to me I am genuinely going insane because of those shows. SO GOOD!
I finished chapter 5 of Malware Data Science this morning! I think I might spend some time playing with the sample data before moving onto the next chapter just to make sure I actually understand everything.
it's the start of a new month! life has been in flux recently, but it's all good things. I landed that job I really wanted (!!!) and now I'm settling into a new routine. I have so much to learn, but I'm excited about it and I'm feeling good about the team I'm on. this job also involves less timezone shenanigans, so I actually have time to study or work on projects in the morning again! my brain works best in the morning so I'm really happy about this.
I'm participating in the june days of productivity challenge (post with my goals coming soon) but mostly I want to focus on getting back to the basics and building a good routine this month. my 3 big priorities are 1) reading 2) running + practicing yoga and 3) getting back into reading Malware Data Science, which I started months ago oops
progress towards my goals today:
I spent an hour or so reading Malware Data Science
highlights today:
my partner & I hung out in the international district in the evening! I bought a few stationery items & I got a red bean paste bun from a bakery there <3
I continued my replay of persona 5 & finished the 5th palace!
I'm gonna be honest, after doing 6 hours of study the day before yesterday, I ended up doing absolutely 0 studying yesterday. Was it a meaningful break? No, I spent the whole day feeling guilty.
I managed to change that around today and actually I got some studying down. Hopefully I can maintain this study momentum.
I did some studying today but first and foremost I ironed a pile of clothes bigger than my entire self. June starts tomorrow (what) and I'm less than two weeks away from the first final of the semester (WHAT)
On repeat today: Eat My Dust!, Dead Pony ♪ (what else is new I'm obsessed with this song)
