Top 5 favorite female characters

Thank you, cephalobroda! Let's do one from each of my major TV fandoms:

1. Gwen Cooper (Torchwood): I love her for being loud and flawed and everything that she's not supposed to be. I love her for being a successful hero and a good mum and having it all because she deserves it all. 

2. Martha Jones (Doctor Who): I love her for being intelligent and kind and more than a little bit of a nerd. I love her for knowing what she wants and going after it, while being a loving and supportive daughter, sister, and friend.

3. Agent Skye (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.): I love her for being a woman who gets the sort of heroic story arc that's normally reserved for white men, and rocking it. She's an orphan on a quest to learn more about her parents, and along the way she's going to find out that she has powers (in addition to the skill set she started with) and she'll have to learn how to use them for good. I love her for existing when we desperately need characters like her. (And you fucking know that if she were a white man instead of a Chinese woman, she'd be the unquestioned star of the show and the fandom would love her.) 

4. Joan Watson (Elementary): I love her for being compassionate without sacrificing her boundaries; for devoting her life to helping others, but still doing what's best for herself when she need to.  

5. Lumen Pierce (Dexter): I love her for being a survivor and being selfish as a survivor. I love her for doing what she needed to do to recover from her trauma, regardless of what anyone said. I love her for walking away from Dexter and all off the danger that came with him, as soon as she felt like her relationship with him was no longer what was best for her.

Push off a cliff: I kind of want to say Grant Ward but I also kind of don't because I want to see him become the Big Bad for season two. Meh. Fuck it. Grant Ward.

Frick frack: Melinda May. Nnng. Just thinking about it...

Marry: Can I marry both Skye and Jemma? If I have to pick one or the other, I pick Skye, but I'd rather marry both. 

Set on fire: John Garrett. Might as well. 

Wrap a blanket around: Oh dear. Skye, Jemma, and Melinda all need it right now. Um. Melinda would probably just shrug it off, so I'll rule her out. Jemma or Skye... Jemma or Skye... Jemma. She's bound to doze off beside Fitz's hospital bed at some point. I'll wrap it around her then. 

Be roommates with: My first instinct was Jemma, but then I remembered that she left a liver next to Fitz lunch, and that's a pretty big draw back in a roommate. Better go with Skye.

Fluffy & Buckbeak

Who would win in a fight: Fluffy. Buckbeak is not nearly as tough as he thinks he is, and that three-headed dog will chew him up in about five seconds. 

Who would be a better roommate: Buckbeak, definitely. If you're polite to Buckbeak, he'll be polite to you. Fluffy will eat you no matter what. 

Who's better in bed: We're going to take the most innocent interpretation of this question possible and say that Buckbeak is a much heavier sleeper than Fluffy. 

Who I'd pick to be my presidential running mate: Buckbeak is a convicted criminal, so I guess I'd better go with Fluffy there. 

Whose shoulder I'd cry on: Fluffy has six shoulders, and I don't think I could cry on any of them without worrying that I'd be eaten, so Buckbeak. 

Who would make a better parent: Fluffy. More stability. 

Who I'd rather date: No.

idk, lemme pull names out of my brain-hat... Cho Chang or Luna Lovegood?

I love Luna to death but I don't think I could marry her. She's more "hot best friend whom I love to death but would never want to live with" material. So I'm going to marry Cho Chang, but Luna will totally be a bride's maid at the wedding. :D

Hermione and whoever you think is worthy of shipping w/her

Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaank you. 

Mmmmm. I just wrote Hermione/Tosh crossover fanfic last Friday, so let’s go with Toshiko Sato. It’ll be fun. 

Who cooks normally: Hermione is really not a very good cook, even with magic, so Tosh tries to do it, most nights. 

How often do they fight: Virtually never. They don’t often disagree, honestly, but when they do, Tosh is pretty non-confrontational and she knows how stubborn Hermione is, so she usually just lets Hermione have her way, unless it’s something really important to Tosh.

What do they do when they’re away from each other: Well, they both have jobs that keep them very busy, and Hermione’s got two babies. (Who are actually younger than I thought they were when I wrote the fic last Friday, because I don’t fact-check for shit on Friday fics. I was thinking they’d be like two years old and four years old, but actually they’d probably be like two years old and four months old. Not that any of this matters to you…) I imagine that they both like to read to unwind, though Hermione doesn’t get to do it very often because it requires both that she be off work and that Ron have the kids. Tosh gravitates toward lighter stuff: historical fiction and the occasional trashy romance novel (They’re guilty pleasures for her.), while the stuff that Hermione considers “light reading” tends to have titles like The Politics of the Second Goblin War and its Aftermath. Hermione is definitely exchanging letters with Minerva McGonagall, discussion business at Hogwars/the Ministry and the finer points of advanced transfiguration. Tosh likes sketching (though she doesn’t think she’s any good). Hermione leaves the knitting to Molly these days. Tosh goes out more, either to the cinema (Sometimes she can make it a girls’ night with Gwen or badger Owen into going with her—she knows better than to ask Jack and Ianto!) or to the pub. 

Nicknames for each other: Probably just “honey” when they’re comfortable enough with each other. 

Who pays for dinner: Tosh, generally. It’s usually her idea to eat out anyway, and she always picks the restaurant because she knows her way around Cardiff and Hermione doesn’t. Plus, she doesn’t have to get her currency exchanged. 

Who steals the covers: Hermione’s daughter, whenever she has a nightmare and insists on climbing into bed with them. In the absence of toddler-nightmares, neither of them strike me as terribly likely to steal the covers, but Tosh is probably slightly more likely than Hermione to. 

What would they get each other for gifts: Tosh always tries to dazzle Hermione with technology and Hermione always gets Tosh some precious magical item. 

Who remembers things: I imagine that they’re both very good at remembering anniversaries and birthdays and such. Hermione is probably better at remembering things like “We’re out of milk,” just because I think Hermione has a more organized mind (though that does not translate to Hermione being a more organized person). 

Who cusses more: Hermione. Especially if her children aren’t around, because then she feels like she has a chance to get it out of her system. 

Who kissed whom first: Hermione kissed Tosh first.

River + ... rivers/water in general

You know, I don’t really have a well-thought-out headcanon for this. I mostly just want River to go visit the Gamma Forests during one of her university breaks because, like, she was named after those rivers, and just sort of hang out and have a fling with a nice Gamma Girl. Possibly a fling that involves swimming in a river and snogging while they’re all wet. Yes. That would be nice.
