A new direction I’ve been exploring in the studio. I love my walks through the bush. I get fed in so many ways paying attention to the beauty that surrounds me there. I find so many treasures that have fallen from trees, seed pods, bark and loads of flowers that the cockatoos have snapped off at full bloom. I’ve had a particular pull to banksia pods. Their organic forms and slit like eyes are so fascinating. I always take a select few back with me to the studio to ponder over them. I keep them on my work bench so I can marvel at their contours and the way the openings hold the seeds inside. This is what I’ve been playing with this year. Organic forms and pushing the surface of the clay to sometimes busting point. I created this body of work for a group exhibition that was cancelled due to Covid. Now they sit on my shelves like sentinels watching me. They are like precious objects, signaling/marking a new direction for me, in my work. So I’m holding onto them for a while and they can watch me and I them. I’ll be sharing this new work over @christina__mclean__ ✨ #ceramaicpod #surfacemanipulation #australianceramics #stoneware #ceramicobject #christinamclean #australiannativeflora https://www.instagram.com/p/CUa71q2BhI-/?utm_medium=tumblr
