Cerys: A lothappened during the last days. She candidate for the role as new Queen ofSkellige Isles and she and the witcher Geralt tricked a Hym and were able tofree the Jarl of Spikeroog from its possession. A great deed, but was itimpressive and great enough to become a Queen? That question troubled her mind. She thought of [your name], who helped her along the way. They gave herconfidence and time to breath from pressure. They were the one who persuade herto become a participant in the game of thrones, which no woman has done beforeher. The appointment was to take place in the evening at an ancient place, bearing history of kings and queens. The few hours she had to suffer throughappeared like small, slow steps moving forward with hesitancy. She wandered around the outside ofthe castle, looking at the snowy mountains, the deep blue sea with its whitecrowns and the wide land, she would reign over.Cerys noticed [your name] talking toher father, probably talking about the appointment. As the conversation endedand her father left, she walked over to [your name].“What was it you two were talkingabout?”, Cerys asked out of curiosity.“I asked who he thinks will win, butasking him is pointless. He won’t give a clear answer”, they said, “I bet he’son your side. Slaying a giant is with no doubt a heroic dead, yet nothingcompared to outsmarting a demon. I doubt he would be capable of achieving thatkind of success”.“If he would think about his actionsmore thoroughly, he might be able to”, Cerys chuckled. She knew her brother tobe too hot-headed as to win a battle of minds, especially against a monster hewould very likely lose, but he also has his smart moments in battle. “What ismost important is what the others think, some may prefer sheer strength”.They nodded. Slaying a giant wasindeed material for legends and stories.“I still think your accomplishmentis much more fitting to a leader”, they declared.Their kind words made Cerys feelsecure. She knew she can’t be too poised about the event nonetheless sheappreciated the honest support. Cerys thought how they were always there forher, no matter the situation one of them was in.“Thank you. I feel more confidentnow, however, I shouldn’t underestimate the other participants. A leader shouldwait patiently and not set their expectations too high”. That was what she wassaying, however, inside her she felt a strong confidence, which was not onlyfor her being queen, but for another goal as well.“You are right, but you shouldlisten to what you just said. You already sound like a true leader. Skelligewould be dumb not to have you as its queen”.“Without you I wouldn’t have come sofar”, Cerys concluded.“I simply gave you a little help, nothing else”, they shrugged.“You are too humble”, she smiled andhold their hands in hers, looking into their eyes, “It’s not ‘nothing else’.It’s so much more than that. Before a few moments I felt anxious and nowsecure. A simple ‘thank you’ doesn’t appear enough for your help and beingthere”.They giggled shyly. Cerys noticedhow her heart beat got faster and quickly removed her hands, too afraid theywould notice your trembling hands from the excitement. They gave you aquestioning look.“Oh, we need to go to the ceremonysoon”, Cerys stammered. She might be a suited queen and calm in mostsituations, but she was a terrible liar. They agreed to her suggestion. Ceryswas sure they noticed everything she wanted to hide until the moment was there.
Cerys took a deep breath. Thetorches around her were hot. The flames created circles of light in the starrynight. She stood in front of an old tree with a golden crown in hands, lookingat the people standing before her, cheerful chanting her name. As shereverently put on the crown, the crowd became even more excited and louder. Itwas like a vivid dream. Her brother congratulated her and joked she wouldalways remain his opponent, even though she was now a queen. Her father noddedcontent, with pride in his eyes. Cerys knew what had to be done. She gave aspeech to her people, who joined in with great joy.Soon everyone started to celebratewith food and drink. Cerys had some time to take a breath. She couldn’t hideher delighted smile. She knew with whom to spend her time.[Your name] looked at Cerys with awide grin and merry eyes. The excitement of the success, but also of what stoodbefore her, made her heart jumping.“I’m so proud of you, I knew youwould be appointed queen!”, they cried while running towards her and fallingaround her neck. Cerys returned the tight embrace. Her hands started shakingagain, but that didn’t matter to her in this very moment.“I love you”, it jumped out of hermouth before she could realize it. As realization struck her, her bodystiffened and her eyes widened. She had planned her confession differently, much more subtle in order to make sure she wouldn’t await a disappointinganswer, but there was no turning back now. The words wouldn’t escape her mouthas she tried to articulate an apology.“I love you too, my queen”, theyresponded. They stood there in silence, remaining arms in arms. Cerys didn’t know what to think or say in this moment, letting her embrace speak the words.
Regis: Youwaited in the cold, misty cemetery for Regis. He wanted to meet with hours agoand now it was already deepest night. Keeping others waiting was unusual forhim, except there was an urgency he had to fulfill or cogitated over a newphilosophical thought.“Regis, are you there? I’m freezingfor an eternity now”, you cried and knocked forceful with your fist on thedoor.Silence.You sighed and crossed your arms asa try to stay protected from the bitter cold. He was probably not even there oryou just confound the time or day of your meeting. He was very busy. When he’snot busy examining various objects, like strange plants or ancient paper, onwhich you were helping him, he was mostly discussing different topics with afew vampires living in Beauclair. You didn’t know what he was discussing withthem or who the others even were and you weren’t really interested in it. Ifthere would be a detail of interest or a potential threat, he would have toldyou. What you were interested in was meeting up with him. A few days ago he toldyou to see him at midnight at the usual place. The matter appeared to be ofgreat significance to him for he didn’t revealed much and spoke in his indirectway. While he did this mainly to avoid directly speaking out somethingunpleasant or to test the mentality of the person, who he talked to, this timewas even more subtle then you were familiar with. You were able tell hisintentions from his phrasing occasionally, had always an idea of what he wastalking about, but this time he left you confused. He wanted tell you somethingimportant. You knew each other for a long time now and quickly became friends. You mostly met to talk about new examinations or you brought him new plants orsometimes you just sat together, drinking one of his strong brews. You wondered if this was about animportant discovery. The question still remained: what was keeping him so long,if it’s that important?“I go home now”, you said andknocked one last time on the door.Silence.At the moment you were about to turnaround a rustle came out of the bushes.“Who’s there?”, you asked, puttingyour hand to the handle of a dagger hidden in your bag.“You don’t need to feel troubled”, afamiliar silhouette stepped out of the bushes.“What were you doing? I’m frozen atthis point”, you breathed in relief and let go of the dagger.“I collected a few allspice rootsfor a liquor. A wonderful plant, don’t you think? Its effect is not limited toaromatic liquor, but expands on medicine, creating chemical substances anddyes”, Regis explained.“I could need one in this cold. Thelow temperature perfectly evens out the burning from that drink. Also I’mcurious about the significant reason you called me here for”.“I will tell you after you arewarmed up. At first I need to apology for my late appearance. Searching forallspice roots might be a time consuming activity, although it’s not worthkeeping you waiting in the cold night”, Regis said and opened the door to hislaboratory.“I should have decided on wearing awarmer coat and I was too early anyway”, you replied as you walked through theentrance.Regis being well-mannered held thedoor open for you. The closing door behind you banished the bitter frigidityand trapped the welcoming warmth of the burning torches. You loved this place! The big library, detailed illustrations, sophisticated research-objectives andyellowed papers were like a second home to you. You immediately caught aglimpse at an organized pile of papers.“I haven’t seen those before. Arethey new?”, you asked.“Not entirely. I collected all ofthe recent finding, compared it to early entries and set it in correlation.Numerous sources from the past proved to contain almost the exact informationas we seemed to acquire only in the current time, yet it was always there eventhough phrased in a subtle, more complex manner than we are used to. You canread, if you want. I will prepare the allspice liquor now”, Regis clarified andwent to the kitchen which equaled more of a laboratory or for brewing potions, filled with chemical utensils. A purpose it fulfilled without a doubt. You skimmed through the paperscovered with inky writings. After you reached half of the pile Regis handed toyou a cup filled with a steamy liquid. You laid the papers away in safedistance from the potential risk of suffering stains. You clink glasses andchugged the burning brew. You weren’t as accustomed to the strong drink as youthought you would be and lapsed into a coughing fit.“My memories must have betrayed me.I remembered it not that dry”, you uttered with a raspy voice.“That is because I changed therecipe minimalistically”, Regis smiled, revealing his sharp teeth. You were surprised to see himsmiling like that for you seldom saw his sharp teeth. This might actually bethe first time he showed them unconsciously in your presence and rewarded himwith a smile from your side. These jaunty moments were those you appreciatedthe most with him.“I’m sure your unique, demonicrecipe is not the reason you wanted the meet with me. So what is it you want totell me? I’m curious”, you asked.Regis took another sip of theallspice liquor.“I need to ask you, what is it youenjoy when working here? Most herbalists prefer working outside in directcontact with nature, yet you always head to this place as soon as you find anodd plant”.You knew there was more behind thisquestion then it appeared.“Here are all the information andmaterials stored I need. Studying and working in the forest or at a meadow hasits perks, but so has working in laboratory. I enjoy your presence as well. Theexaminations wouldn’t be the same. You tell me facts and backgrounds I wouldhave remained unknown of without you”, you said, still slightly suspicious,“But I also know that you ask me questions to find out about something and thismight continue for some time. So, what is the real reason you called me herefor?”“You caught me. My intention was toknow more about how you feel. If there is a chance you feel towards me, how Ido about you”, he slowly explained in his clear voice. You looked surprised at him. Younever imagined him to see more in you than a mere assistant.“I love you”.Hearing him say the words out loudfelt unreal to you. It made you happy. You loved being with him, studying withhim, drinking with him, talking with him. He couldn’t have made you happierthan in this moment.“The feeling is mutual”, you saidwith a grin forming on your face, “I love you too”.
