Succession

Comment échapper au poids de l'héritage familial ? Guérit-on des traumatismes survenus dans l'enfance ? Dans ce roman, Jean-Paul Dubois, dans une écriture magnifique, nous raconte Paul Katrakilis, joueur professionnel de cesta punta (pelote basque).  Installé en Floride, bien loin de ses origines basques, et de sa famille « déglinguée » qu'il fuit à toute force, il ne peut pourtant s'en extraire, dans une trajectoire inéluctable qui ne lui laisse aucune chance.

Un récit implacable et poignant, avec un personnage attachant pour lequel on éprouve toute de suite une grande sympathie, héros léger et fragile, généreux et impuissant, qui avance tel un funambule. En toile de fonds la plongée dans l'univers de la cesta punta est particulièrement réussie.

Un roman sombre, où désespoir et bonheur d'être au monde se côtoient en permanence.

It’s been a “no fanart” time for me recently because I’m busy with school and every weekend I end up having to donate a good chunk of my time to assisting in the household’s Yardape Management scheme.

While I’ve been lazy with the art for this visual design course and simply traced-with-credit most of the art for the Jai Alai pamphlet I’m designing (I’m being judged on my design savvy, not my cartooning skill) I decided that I wanted to give myself the time for at least one freehand illustration.  I liked the way that this sketch of a pelotari turned out.
