it was just supposed to be a regular investigation. nothing too crazy, just following up on some tales going around about a mysterious large BEAST supposedly having guided folks who had lost their path back to safety. although on the more darker side of the stories, there had also been a number of people supposedly lost to the very same creature as well, never to be seen again.
as arthur followed the trail, he eventually came across an unsettling sight. blood on the ground. and lots of it. with careful steps, he decided to follow the crimson-painted path further into the woods. further and further, until he eventually spotted it on the ground ahead of him; an enormous wolf, laying there, injured and bleeding. halting in his tracks, concern washed over his features. his first instinct was to turn back before he was spotted. even injured animals could be dangerous, he knew. but... in the back of his mind, he remembered all the folks who had told him they owed this very wolf their lives for having helped them. and so, he forced himself to move closer, with careful steps, his weapons all holstered at his belt and hanging over his shoulder; none in his hand ready to use just in case, despite it probably being a good idea. his eyes never leaving the wolf.
“ hey there...” he said in a calm, careful tone, trying to attract it’s attention before he got too close. at least that way, he’d have some time to react if this seemed to go south. that, and this way, he’d hopefully not startle the wolf too much.

Time spent at Sarah’s farm had been some of the best ways to pass the time. Adorablesoft cows to pet, someone to spend time around that wasn’t John Seed. It had almostmade things bearable for him. Not that he could ever forget why he was here,how he’d come to be a part of the Project –– it lingered in the back of hismind, nagging at him. So Alex was biding his time, trying to do as littledamage as possible while surviving under John’s heavy handed guidance. He’d notbeen able to entirely avoid bloodshed but he stood his ground, held onto thecore of who he was as a person. Alex had been sent with Sarah for some task orthe other that day –– he’s not sure whatexactly that task is because until then his interactions with her had been prettylimited. The bunker, the farm, from point A to point B. Never before had he accompanied her on work.
He’s riding shotgun in her truck as they drive down a dirt roadtowards a house. It’s already been vandalized, the words S I N N E R and S L O T H written across it in what he hopes isred paint. Sarah is first out of the vehicle, and Alex lags behind, opening hisdoor then shutting it slowly. He walks after her, glancing around. It’s oddly quiet,and his eyes catch on the nearby garage that is wide open but the vehicleinside is wrecked. “Sarah what are -” Before he finishesasking his question the sound of splintered wood and a scream interrupts him. Hishead snaps to the side and he barely catches a glimpse of her before she walksthrough the front door she’d just kicked in. He hears them shouting, hearsSarah’s voice carry out onto the porch and then she’s dragging someone outside.An older woman. Behind her is an older man following with wide eyes and pleadingwith her to stop, to let them go. Her judge had darted inside and he hasn’t seen it since.
“What the fuck?”Alex asks and starts walking towards her, but then she spins,points the gun at the man and shoots him point blank in the forehead.
He falters, the rush of blood in his ears nearlydrowning out the woman’s panicked screaming. Eyes wide, he stares at the bodycrumpled behind Sarah’s form. She’s suddenly a threat, intimidating –– not the person he thought she was. Her eyeslift to meet his and Alex takes a small step back. “Shoot her Alex.” One arm is extended towards him offering the gun over the womansobbing on the ground, calling out the name ‘Carl’ –– must have been herhusband. Alex feels nauseous. “No. Lookat what you’re doing. She’s –– they’renot resistance?” But they weren’t withthe Project, and now that he thought about it they had a sizable amount offarmland. He feels sick. “Sara stop she’snot -” Her eyes harden then her arm lowers and he takes a panicked stepforward, reaching out to stop her but she pulls the trigger –– staring at Alexthe whole time.
It’s quiet then. The wailing cut off with a bang. Herjudge slinks out from inside the house, muzzle red and he wonders who else wasin there to kill. Alex steps back, looking at Sarah, full of contempt, full of disappointment.“You’re a murderer for them.” It’sthe wrong thing to say, he knows he’s fucked.
He turns on his heel and bolts across the driveway,hopping the barbed wire fence so he can book it into the treeline.
“Oh Alex, don’t run! You got yourself intothis mess- this could have gone so FUCKING smooth if you had just done what Iasked! I’ll find you, this won’t help!” Her voice carries to himand he’s still running. There’d be no outpacing the judge and soon enough aheavy, solid weight slams into his back and he goes down. Alex kicks at theanimal, lands a few solid hits before it sinks its fangs into his thigh. Oh fuck. Alex yelps, cries out at the painof sharp teeth tearing so easily through his flesh but he knows. He knowsbecause his dad was a cardiovascular surgeon. He knows because he’s seen othercorpses littering the Whitetails with similar wounds.
He’s going to die here.
Going to die without having ever seen Sara or Hannahagain. Alex falls onto his back, arching his spine in pain as the animal twistsits head, tears the skin further. A hiccup of pain lodges in his throat and hecloses his eyes tightly. He’d long since given up on punching or shoving at thejudge’s face. He takes up fistfuls of dirt while trying to breathe through thepain –– through the knowledge of bleeding to death in Hope County. His eyesopen wide, rimmed with red and wet from tears. The sky is blue through the canopy oftrees and his brows furrow. Sarah’s here, Sarah’s shoving her fingers into theopen wounds and a fresh scream is dragged from his throat. “Fuck!”
His eyes roll towards her, and his chest rises andfalls, heavy, panting as she yells at him, as she lectures him on not killing an old couple in a farmhouse.
“That’s the femoral, y'know? What she chewed through? Big, BIG,artery running riiiight downyour thigh… Major, y'know? If I let go? You’ll be out in thirty seconds, bledout in let’s say… Guy your size? Two, three minutes tops. No one is coming tohelp you, no one. YouDID this! It was all laid out, all PLANNED! And you… You fucked up your chance to proveyourself! Too concerned with helping people, trying to get people out of theCounty- yeah, I knowthat little escapade.”
At the mention of the tunnel escape he laughs,the sound dry and high. Back then he’d thought he was going to die, but Johnhad plans. Had let him live to provehimself. So much for that.
“We TRUSTED you!” Sarah shouts, sounding indignant like she’s the one betrayed.
Then she loosens her fingers and Alex laughs but it’smore of a sob –– hard to tell if he’s crying with all the blood everywhere. When she turns towards him,gun in hand he lifts his chin. “Ithought you were different.” His voice is soft, softer than it’s ever beenbut he knows she heard him. Can see it in the flash of rage, of something in her eyes before she takesaim.
Then there’s nothing.

volk went sans pubic hair once & only once just to try it and not only was it too much friction because if you didn’t already know he likes to go commando but also his husband said he looked like a raw chicken. volk complains about the itching & having to wear underwear .
