Happy birthday to the U.S. Coast Guard, the oldest, continuous maritime service. It's been 230 years since Alexander Hamilton implemented his "system of cutters" in 1790. We've come a long way from Hopley Yeaton and the USRC Scammel. As I sit here I see some of the newest cutters in the service just across the water and I think back to my first cutter, the Ace of the Lakes, USCGC Acacia, built in 1944 and decommissioned in 2006. I've seen the service change so much in the 22 years I've served and I see so much more for our future. So here's to the little service that could, the puddle pirates, the men and women who have come before, those just stepping off the bus, and those Coasties that stand the watch around the world. ........... Since it's also the 100th anniversary of Prohibition this year I thought a glass of 23 year old Kirk and Sweeney Rum complete with Coast Guard seizure tag and a Davidoff The Late Hour would be more than appropriate. Cheers! ........... “Officers will always keep in mind that their fellow citizens are free, and, as such are impatient of anything that bears the least mark of a domineering spirit. They should carefully refrain from anything resembling arrogance, rudeness or insult. They will strive to overcome difficulties by a cool and even-tempered perseverance in their duty.” -Alexander Hamilton, letter to Revenue Cutter Officers ............ #cgday #coastguard #uscg #gocoastguard #happybirthday #hamilton #230years #CoastGuard230 #cigar #davidoffcigars #thelatehour #cigarafficianado #ciagrlife #cigarsandrum #TapThatAsh #rum #kirkandsweeney #firepit (at Coastal San Pedro) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDfZ5lFn-7p/?igshid=1vo8fcfqi1ue6
