Erin
After having drinks with Chase and Caden the night before, Erin put some thought into Chase’s offer to install a security system in her apartment. She was pretty good at looking after herself, but she figured that it couldn’t hurt, especially with her badge and gun currently on a shelf in Voight’s office, collecting dust. She wouldn’t admit defeat, but she knew that with Chase, she didn’t have to. It wasn’t a case of defeat, it was merely that he knew that she lived alone and spent her evenings at home, also alone. The latter was not so true now, but he had no way to know that and Erin wasn’t exactly offering up details to Kristin’s brother.
After a cup of coffee, and trashing part of her kitchen due to frustration, and then cleaning up the mess in the kitchen, she went to her phone and sent a text to Chase. –Hey! Just wondering if today was good for you to come by? I’ve got something this afternoon, but I’m free this morning if you have time to do that install you were talking about before… -- She didn’t explain how it was that she was free, just that she was, and left the rest for him to figure out.

“That’ll be all for today. Thank you ladies for your time,” said the powerful CEO as he rose from his place and nodded to the three women across from him. Buttoning his charcoal grey blazer, he reached across to shake the hands of each woman before making his way out of the conference room and into the hall. Immediately, he was greeted by his assistant, handing him his phone and ipad with the day’s schedule open and bright for him to glance at. However, what caught his eye were the two names on the screen of his phone and the brief preview of text from each.
Det. Erin Lindsay Hey! Just wondering if today was good for you to come by? I’ve got som…
MOM Call your sister. She took an extension at work. I’m worried…
“Clear my schedule,” Chase told Sarah, sliding his ipad back into her capable hands and not waiting for her to argue. He knew she would, after all they’d planned his schedule weeks in advance and any deviation from the course nearly unraveled the girl, but he didn’t owe her an explanation nor would one be given. No amount of explanation on her part would sway his mind. “I don’t care what you have to tell them,” he said a moment later, interrupting her monologue of reasons this was unprofessional that, quite frankly, he couldn’t care less about. His family came first. His friends second. “Just clear my day. Then take an early day and I’ll see you in the morning,” he winked at her before going on his way.
He knew that even an ounce of kindness to his staff would move mountains but it still amazed him how one wink in the right direction put the ladies at his beck and call. It was slightly unsettling for him, but who was he to argue the wonder of women? If it got the job done, so be it. In truth, though, he was simply being a decent guy and didn’t mean more than kindness by it.
Taking to text, he sent his mother a reply in which he assured her that he’d check up on Kristin today and give her a full report on the ‘baby of the family’. When his mother was breathing easy with him in control, he replied to Erin.
::Headed your way.::

The mall. The one place in the world that Erin would avoid at all cost. She loved shopping, that was no secret based purely upon the amount of clothes in her closet, but she much preferred the form of shopping from the comfort of her sofa, with a glass of wine in hand and a credit card loaded in her PayPal account. This form of shopping was less than enjoyable. She had to have something for that very night. When she hadn’t heard back from Chase right away, she made the commitment to go to the mall and actually attempt finding something appropriate for her first real date in a very long time.
Standing in the middle of Macy’s, feeling the stress, she heard her phone bling alerting her of the text from Chase. Reading the text, she smiled, thrilled that she now had a reason to leave the mall, abandon the mission. On her way to the parking lot, she sent a quick text back to Chase. –I’ll be there in twenty-- Once she was to her car, she set her phone to drive mode and pulled out of the lot, heading to her apartment and arriving about fifteen minutes later. She didn’t see Chase’s car on the street as she pulled into the resident garage and parking. She went into the building, into her apartment and locked the door to wait for him to arrive.
Not knowing where Chase would need to be in order to work on setting her up, she raced into her room, quickly making up her bed from the night’s activities before. Throwing the throw pillows to the bed, she didn’t bother arranging them, then went back to the living room to be sure things were as tidy as possible. The apartment was small, no doubt about it, but she still wanted it to be presentable.
