Favourite Monster of the Week episode (or top five)?
Anon, I was so psyched to have got an ask of any sort (I don't really have any fandom pals except my beloved fic editor Nell) that I went a bit overboard and illustrated my answer for you...
1. 4x04 Fear, Itself
Xander's irrelevance, Willow's loss of control of magic, Buffy's abandonment to fight endless vampires alone... the gang's fears at the start of Season 4 as they transition to adulthood mirror the struggles of their S5-7 adult selves. Bonus points for bunny Anya and Giles with a chainsaw (daddy)
2. 5x01 Buffy vs Dracula
I love this episode. It lays out the core conflict of S5 (best season) with Buffy's dark heart, and at the same time it does within the text what it does so often with the metatext, and lampshades and subverts tropes of the genre.
3. 5x03 The Replacement
Does this count as a monster of the week? Again, I love this episode - it lays out the S5 theme of doubles, reflections and copies, not just with Xander but also with Spike and his first Buffybot prototype in the mannequin (with Harmony as the second...?)
4. 2x11 Ted
Excellent, but a difficult rewatch for me. What I find interesting is how early the show lays the foundations for the moral lines of Slayerhood; the horror we feel when we think Buffy has killed a human, and the powerlessness she feels against human cruelty.
5. 1x09 The Puppet Show
The only Buffyverse episode I have never seen. I am terrified of ventriloquist dummies. Is it any good?
Jamie quietly walks up to Xander, giving him a bow. "You wished to see me Lord Xander?"
“Right,i wanted to ask you about your stance on Nohr.”

a memory of death/loss
I sure do hope you kids are tucked in because this is going to be a long one. My poor AleXander.
Xander comes from a family that I would consider to be rather grassroots political, trying to fight the good fight for the common witches and wizards. Although his grandparents have been known to stay rather unbiased (even with their close ties to Minerva McGonagall), not wanting their political standings to get in the way of their business, his parents were quite the opposite. Jaiden, his father, and Farrah, his mother, both fell in love during their time at Hogwarts and both went into the same field of study. Jaiden was always destined to run the family farm, but never quite found a knack for Herbology and dove deep into his love for all forms of music. Farrah had always been known as a songbird, much like her mother, and found little interest in the required subjects each year. It’s safe to say that the two of them had always been meant to work for the Wizarding Radio.
Now, that leaves the question of “why do the political ties matter, what does that mean for them, and xander, and why does it matter?”
Well, his parents had been born at the start of the First Wizarding War and that really left a mark on the two of them. Especially Farrah, as some of her family were actually muggle born and she had a hard time grasping how anyone could harm such innocent beings. Although the Murray’s and the Wright’s stayed out of the lime-light when it came to the war, the two families did dabble in funding the cause of taking Lord Voldemort down but kept it all in secret to protect their families. Needless to say, this really shaped their outlook on social status within the Wizarding community and wanted to actively be a part of its change for the better.
Jaiden and Farrah’s relationship was very much love-at-first-sight, even though the two never made it official until the final months within the school walls. Xander and Savannah can still recall their parents playful arguments on who was to blame for the misread signs of affection. Shortly after graduation, the two landed radio host jobs at the Wizarding Radio Broadcasting and started using their young voices to change the opinions of others. The couple would often be found putting together small shows in order to raise funds for those affected by the war. This was his parents life, even throughout giving birth to him in the middle of a Second War and surviving.
At the fall of Lord Voldemort, many of his followers fell and scurried back into their dark corners of the world. But like most things evil, they never completely die out. The ones that still had death in their hearts begin to form, still after the same radical ideas of purity, and would soon call themselves Hellerune. Minor attacks sprouted, mostly in the European region and typically only resulted in mild injuries, but no one could pinpoint the exact motives behind. The members of Hellerune kept silently growing in numbers while the authorities seemed to keep pointing in all the wrong directions.
In the winter of 2010, the Wizarding Radio Broadcasting would be hosting their 9th Annual Galleons for a Good Cause Holiday show. This had slowly turned into quite a larger gathering, sometimes more than 20,000 people showing up to support equality amongst the wizarding community. It’s really a no-brainer as to why this show would end up being the start of some of Hellerune’s most horrendous attacks against the society that preached for peace. The venue was bombarded by nine of the terrorists, leaving a little over 8,000 individuals dead or injured. Unfortunately, Xander’s parents were amongst those of the dead. As him and his best friend, Hyde, hid on the catwalks of the venue, he watched his parents being murdered down below.
Send in a symbol and I’ll write a drabble of one of my muse’s memories.
