This isn't at all surprising on Luffy's end as he has habit of asking interesting people to his crew just because he thinks they're interesting, but Brook being so quick to agree says a lot about how starved he is for human contact. He hides it behind a cheerful facade, but he's been lonely for a long, long time.
How appropriate that Brook is introduced singing Brink's Sake?
