Marineford is a visual tour de force, but I do want to point out how Oda integrates these feats of strength into the plot of the arc. Aokiji freezing the bay has a myriad of consequences, intentional and not, for how the actual war plays out. Both sides came in with a plan, but huge chunks of that plan get thrown out the window in the first five minutes because Aokiji decided to stop a tidal wave with his power.

It also solves the immediate problem of how to get characters out of their boats and onto land. For a series setting that's 90% water Oda doesn't really do ship to ship combat, so by freezing the bay it lets the characters to immediately jump into action.
