When Shere approached Merida in the new year, there was snow on the forest floor. And, much to his chagrin, the Vaagh had walked the entire way on two feet rather than four, preferring that the girl not see him and still think that he was a threat, despite the handful of times that he had attempted to contact her.
Wolves were stubborn things to navigate and, while Shere himself cared not a single whit for the politicking and the grandstanding, preferring to keep to himself and the notion that shifters were shifters no matter what beast dwelled beneath their skin, newer wolves needed to be able to navigate that opinion on their own time.
It was one of the many reasons he rarely, if ever, came near the area of Enchantra marked as Merida’s on his runs through the forest; saved him from an aching head and a potentially angry young woman all in a single swoop. Yet, that did not mean he had given up and, just as his present-laden arms suggested, he was here for the holiday, a grin on his face and a patience radiating from him as he waited for Merida at her garden gate.

Shere had been busy, what with his daughter having been stabbed by a psychopathic arsehole, helping her recover while he took a short leave off the university and Swynlake PD to do it, but this was something he had noticed a while yet.
Merida Dunbroch was missing. Or, rather, she had been long since absent, not only from classes but from general sightings on campus.
The Vaagh knew the rumors, knew the truth, that had happened to the girl. That she was now a Wolf and, as those things usually went, it had ended...near-tragically. And that, in itself, was a pity. Merida was a bright girl, strong tenacious, and she had been one of his best students, if not one of his favorite. Naturally, this concern meant Shere did a bit of digging (okay. a lot of digging). And it meant that he was now in Enchantra, lopping along on tiger paws to where he had heard (another ‘rumor’, though Shere hardly believed it to be such) Merida’s last whereabouts were.
If anything, the Vaagh hoped his presence could act as a familiar face. Someone for her to speak to as, it seemed, Merida had been secluded away for some time.
Ears flicking forward to listen, the Tiger stopped. Shere took his place moments later, wincing at the sore muscles as he pulled on trousers and a shirt, shoes and socks, all of which he had nestled in a little bag. There were times when it was easier to remain as the tiger and times when it was best to be the man. For some such occasions, Shere had taken to hiding a spare bag or two in the forest. He continued the rest of the way on foot and when Merida’s home was in sight, called out a hello.
