5 Things To Do Before Your Next Salon Visit
Trust us. We are rule breakers. However, making sure you get the most out of your next salon visit does involve a few simple rules of salon etiquette. In fact, most salon etiquette happens before you ever sit in our chair. Being prepared for your hair appointment is just as important as the appointment itself. Come prepared. It can make your visit everything we both want it to be.
I have been a stylist for almost twenty years. When it comes to client-stylist relationships I have seen it all. The client that shows up 30 minutes late holding a fresh coffee, and then the client that shows up early with cookies for the whole shop. Be the best client that you can be by being prepared. This doesn't mean that you have to bake us cookies (We do love cookies.) but it does mean that you should do a few extra steps before your salon visit. For instance, it's best to have a clear image of what you would like done to your hair. While you may think coloring your hair blonde means going two shades lighter, your stylist could have a completely different perspective. Photos. We love them! What else should you do? Here are five things that you should do to make your next visit all it should be.
1. Book Your Appointment In Advance.
It is 2017, people. Book an appointment. Our shop schedules color touch ups and haircuts when you are leaving your current appointment. Any stylist can tell you that spur of the moment drastic hair changes are never good. It also goes without saying that any salon you could walk into with a few pinterest pictures and a vague idea of a new look may be risky. Plan ahead.
2. Book a Consultation.
Want something drastic? You are thinking an intense vivid colors or a pastel blonde? Not sure about what you want? Schedule a consultation. In our shop they are totally free and usually take less than 10 minutes. A consultation allows the two of you to work out the perfect plan for your style before your next hair appointment.
3. Learn the Language.
Balayage, hairpainting, babylights, and sombre. I do hair and it is freaking exhausting. Don't worry about sounding trendy- ask for what you want. You don't want to be disappointed because you do not know the lingo. If you are unsure- bring a picture.
4. Plan Your Time Correctly
I can not tell you how often clients misjudge the actual amount of time it takes to perform a service. Every stylist uses different techniques for different hair types, so timing out your service isn't an exact science. So, when it comes to planning your day around your hair appointment, always plan a little wiggle room.
5. Know What You Want
Sounds simple. If there is ever a single thing I can point to that cause an appointment to go badly it is breakdown in communication. Saying that you "just need a change" doesn't let your stylist know what type of change that you want. A short cut? A drastic color change? A few more layers? Before your next appointment, do a bit of research on what you would like to do to your hair. If you aren't sure how to communicate it, then (I can't express this enough) bring in a photo or two.
