This weekend Chad Carter described someone with phlegm in their throat as sounding like "a pug drowning in honey" and I can't stop thinking about how funny that was.

Level 4- Chad Carter:
Most improvisors are fairly intelligent, Chad stands out in even this environment as a genius. This was the first level where I actually started out confident. Since I didn't recognize most, I just assumed I was going to be the competent, aggressive player. Turns out, this class was packed with talent, including future SFA teammate Nick Mandernach. Chad was always decent, but had no patience for bad improv. You could tell how boring your scene was by how fast his knee bounced. I quit wasting time in scenes, and I did learn how to be aggressive. My confidence ebbed and flowed. I also learned how to tie ideas together, I think that might be one of his strengths. His approach in making connections, I believe, helps everyone's neurons fire quicker, by understanding how to direct your thoughts along a more narrow path. As an analytical mind myself, I really dug this class.
Podcast Tuesday
improv4humans with Matt Besser - Episode 2 Sean Conroy, Chad Carter & Brian Huskey
[If you don’t know who Matt Besser is, get with the program.]
Every week, Matt Besser and some of his highly talented improviser friends get together and record this podcast. It’s a little different than your average podcast. It doesn’t revolve around special guests, who’s on the the show that week, or even … discussion.
It’s a completely improv based podcast. They improvise long form scenes, and each podcastee (is that the correct nomenclature?) ends up playing several characters. Amongst the sea of music based, interview based, and “haha we are so funny” banter based podcasts, improv4humans is refreshing.
To get yourself started, I recommend the second episode. I listened to it on a jog once and ran for more than 30 50 minutes straight. That’s a whopping big accomplishment for me and I was able to do so because I was completely immersed in the hilarious and twisted world they had improvised. Oh the places they go! And us listeners get to come too!
What it boils down to is this, Matt Besser is basically the godfather of improv (ya know, like founding UCB and whatnot) and a totally improvised podcast is a fun change for my ear buds. These guys are incredible talented, they make big choices in their improv and you can tell there is a lot of trust and respect within the group. If you like improv at all, you should check this week’s Podcast Tuesday selection out.
