Met up with my friend Amy to do some drawing at the Bourgeois Pig, a cool coffee shop right next to the UCB theater.  She brought blank postcards, and we filled some up.  Amy is getting her doctorate and working all the time, but still managed to draw more coherent comics than I have in the past year.  And when we ran out of time (she had to run for an airport pickup) I happened to walk by UCB…

Upright Citizens Brigade

Lately, I've been spending a lot of my free time getting involved with the Upright Citizens Brigade.  Over the past 6 months, I completed 201 and 301, attended my first Del Close Marathon, got interviewed by The Law Firm, hit up a few jams, and found my comedy partner.

Life changing.

I've also met a lot of comedians that are nice.  Let me rephrase that --- a lot of improvisers that are nice.  I started stand up comedy when I was 17 years old.  I used to be in line ups with Marc Maron and Rick Shapiro over at Ha! Comedy Club.  Sure, those comedians were nice, but a stand up comedian is like an island.  Doing improv, you have to be part of a group, it's like one big puzzle that you are trying to figure out, but it's easier to solve when you have people helping.  Improvisers are friendly, we all have the same time up on stage, and no body is fighting for more minutes.  When that red light goes on, it's all of us on the line.

I feel like I'm late to the party at Upright Citizens Brigade, I started improv when I was 16, and have been performing at the National Comedy Theatre for a little over a year now.  A lot of people I met told me not to go to UCB, and I listened.  They said that it was one big clique, and they had bad experiences. I booked a few tv shows, and it turned out that the leads and creators performed at Upright Citizens Brigade.  I figured it couldn't hurt to learn, and I love to learn.

I'm going to continue on to 401.

I'm going to do more twoprov with my comedy partner that I met in 201.

I'm going to go to Asssscat every Sunday.   

and I will be happy.
