This is the last night of Chanukah, and also the first evening of the new year. A time both of ending and beginning, as happens many times in life, and it is nice to have a way to mark this one with a beautiful light display.

It's a good reminder, I think, to take a moment at the end of other things in our lives before we begin something new. It's nice to linger by the fire for a bit.
