Stat Stacking in FEH
I thought I’d make a post about this so people who are struggling with Chain Challenges could make things a bit easier on themselves. I wanna talk about stat stacking on one unit to insure you get through with as minimum frustration as possible. It’s all trial and error, but with the right set p you should do fine. I’ll do my best to keep it as F2P friendly as possible
First thing i want to point out is the difference between Visible buffs and Invisible buffs. For those that don’t know you have your field buffs (visible) and your incombat buffs(invisible) Visible buffs are from skills like Hone, Fortify, and Tactics. Invisible buffs are from skills like Goads, Wards, Spurs and Drives. Visible buffs will not stack with other Visible buffs. Invisible buffs can stack with other invisible buffs and a visible buff. for example. If you have a flier next to two fliers with Hone Fliers, that unit between them will still get the flat +6 to atk and spd. If the flier is next to someone who has hone fliers and someone else who has goad fliers, They will have +6 from the hone fliers and then an extra +4 from the other unit who Goads, bringing them to a +10 to their atk and spd. Now you can only see the visible buffs on the stats since it will highlight said stat blue, everything else is invisible and will be calculated when you have the unit initiate an attack.
This is where stat stacking comes into play and how it can be done for chain challenges. If you have one unit that can attack from any range and have a lot of buffs stacked on them, then you can insure they take 0 damage while doing super damage back and clear chain challenges. While you can do this with any unit, I highly recommend it be a colorless unit as they have no weaknesses. while you can use a colored unit(I have with L!Hector for a while), color advantage might come into play if you go against someone with a triangle advantage
Here’s an example of how you can have someone stacked to hell.
We have M!Corrin here. He is a key component to any kind of stat stacking team. Because of his 3-4 star rarity, he’s pretty easy to come by. His weapons effect is as follows
“If unit is within 2 spaces of support partner, grants Atk/Spd/Def/Res+4 to that ally during combat.“
So as soon as you have him supported with someone, that unit already gets 4 invisible stats just from being within 2 spaces of Corrin. As I said before, Invisible buffs stacks, and when you support an ally, they get +2 to all stats at max S rank when next to them or +1 to all stats at max S rank when within 2 spaces. This means Corrin is giving you essentially +6 to all stats, +5 from being within two spaces. However we have skill slots to fill in
Corrin with Drive def and Drive res in his C and Seal slot means he will give and extra +3 to the respective stats if he is within two spaces of a unit. while being supported with them, he is giving a grand total of +9 to def and res when next to his supported ally or +8 when he is within 2 spaces. you can already see the numbers are going quite high, and this is based off of just one unit alone.
Since we are doing chain challenges, we need the supported unit, lets keep it F2P friendly and use someone you can easily get in the 3-4 star pool
Lets use Saizo (he needs more love) Saizo being a pretty easy unit to get makes him a perfect colorless candidate for chain challenge. having 33 def at neutral means he has some solid bulk on him and being a dagger unit means he can debuff the opponents to make it harder to kill him. his res is a little on the low side, but since we are stat stacking that shouldn’t be a problem.
heres a pretty F2P friendly build. Using a neutral IV Saizo, we see is res hits 19 with a res refined weapon. However, he has Mirror stance 2 and Distant Def 3 in the seal slot. With mirror stance giving him +4 to res and Distant def giving him +6, that’s an extra +10 to his res stat, giving him 29 res. However, he is also being supported by M!Corrin who’s weapon is giving him another +4, the support itself giving him +2 and the drive res giving him a +3. he is now reaching 38 res. that’s a huge difference compared to where he started. Don’t forget his weapon is debuffing enemies within two spaces of the target for -6 to all stats, thats like an extra +6 to all of his, having him at essentially 44 res if attacked by a debuffed enemy. All of these are incombat buffs, say you had someone with res tactic on the team. that’s another 6, which in turns puts him at a grand total of 50 res. from 19 to 50 you can see just how big of a jump this is. this is only counting for his res stat, his other stats are being boosted as well. And because there is no color weakness, this makes it extremely hard to kill him
Here is a more expensive build. with close counter, this means you can counter any and all opponents that come near you, and with all the buff stacking and being colorless, it would be extremely hard for any of them to do anything. Plan a team out and see what can work for you and you’ll see getting the orbs you missed in Chain challenge is gonna feel a lot easier
Some Quick Notes: -Close/Distant Counter make it much easier to pull off. If you don’t have access to it, make sure you have a build on Corrin or someone else on the team to help kill off the enemy your unit cannot counter attack
-Legendary Ike and Fjorm having distant counter built into their weapons and being free units means they are pretty good choices to stat stack in the same manor should you feel the need to have distant counter on a unit. Being colored might hinder some of the match ups in chain challenge but its defiantly doable
-Dancers like PA!Azura, Flying Olivia and Legendary Azura can add in their own buffs from the sing/dance buffs they give. These are visible buffs so it will show and stack with all the invisible buffs you are giving the unit. Just be sure not to have someone else with a visible buff skill as again, Visible buffs don’t stack with other visible buffs, only invisible one’s will stack with it and with each other
-Marth’s weapon when refined gives and extra +2 to all stats to allies within two spaces. This means you can add even more stats if you combined him and M!Corrin on the same unit
-Sol or Aether is really recommended in case the enemy does do small damage or procs a damaging skill, as it could add up in the end. If you don’t have access to any of these, a healer can work just as fine, especially Brave Veronica if you have her since her attacking will buff her allies and debuff enemies.
-Mistakes can be made and you could end up killing off your unit, try to insure your positioning is as careful as possible. even with stat stacking they can still die if you get careless, be sure to plan out how are are going to move them, in the end its still trial and error.
-F!Grima aka Legendary Robin is a great candidate as she is a colorless flying dragon with DC built into her weapon as well as an A skill that takes away her bow weakness and gives her an extra +4 to def and res for some extra stat stacks
Hope this helped anyone out there who is having trouble with chain challenges or any other PvE mode, as well as for anyone new coming into heroes
anyone who has done Lunatic Chain Challenges would know
Finally finished all of the chain challenges! God, that took me a long time! Now to move on to the squad assaults!
God this thing was painful
Nohrian Scum Conquers!: Paralogue 11&12 Chain Challenge (Lunatic) (Deathless)!
i love this team so much lol
like, they’re themed but also balanced, worth every bit of investment!
I've been banging my head against this for months with hundreds, probably thousands, of stamina flushed into it. But it's finally done and my completionist instincts are no longer constantly triggered by the missing check mark on the Chain Challenge box in the Story Maps menu.
