I don’t know if there’s a better illustration of just how immature the fat activist world is than this:
Consider bringing someone with you who makes you feel brave or secure. Some kind of security object could also work.
Maybe consider rewarding yourself for going so when things get hard you can remember that you’ll be getting a treat when it’s over.
In other words, bring a security blanket, and then engage in uncontrolled emotional eating afterwards. Granted, Mod Belly doesn’t use those words, but let’s get real: these are people who think that any kind of moderation or restriction on food intake is equivalent to an eating disorder, so it’s really a safe assumption to make.
Other highlights include the suggestion that the person pre-diagnose herself and argue with the diagnosis, and that an unfavorable diagnosis should result in doctor shopping.
I’ve never understood this mindset, to be honest: why keep going to doctors if you’re not going to listen to their advice or don’t want the benefit of their expertise? Doctors aren’t out to get you, as a rule; the fact that for-profit medicine is a fucking cancer aside, most doctors at least care a little about the welfare of their patients, and they’re not going to just flat out lie to you.
It’s puzzling, and inconsistent, and stupid, but not at all surprising. After all, these people give ostriches a run for their money when it comes to burying their heads in the sand...
