wada sez: See below for an alternate version of this same page, which was replaced with Ayers’ take at a point where it seemed like it wouldn’t be finished on time, per a comment from Flaherty: “Over the course of the 3+ years it took to produce this project, artists joined the team only to later drop out or disappear from the face of the Earth. For a minute, it looked like Tim was to be among the latter, but then this page showed up in my inbox! Unfortunately, we had already tapped R to produce the same page (21-A). Both are great in their own ways, so we wanted to include both, but like JZ said, they are very different!” Flaherty also noted: “The game is intended to be Crazy 8s -- a tribute to my great-grandmother.”

Dear vector prime, was there ever a version of the beast wars in the marvel universe?
Dear Possible Primate,
The Marvel Beast Wars comic debuted in 1996, with toy commercials advertising the comic constantly: "UNLEASH THE BEAST THIS MARCH! From Marvel Comics!" Hoping to capitalize on nostalgia, Marvel tapped Bob Budiansky and Don Perlin to write and pencil the series.
The first six-issue story arc takes place on present-day Earth. The Maximals crash on Earth, causing the 1994 earthquake in Los Angeles. The friendly Maximals obtain disguises at the zoo, but eventually the two children of a zookeeper, Jack and Uma, discover that there is more to the animals than meets the eye—just as the Predacons arrive to terrorize the world! The comic was very different from the cartoon: many issues were spent on a rivalry between Wolfang and Buzz Saw; Dinobot and Rhinox only appear in the first issue as block-colored background characters during an "introdump".
Budiansky wrote a few more arcs, including some notable issues like "The Beast-Tamer!", about a circus trainer who could train and control any animal, and "T-Rextra!", which involves a semi-comatose Megatron serving as a fancy dinosaur prop for a popular dinosaur movie franchise. PETA features heavily in the series, whose liaison Mr. Blix allies with the Maximals. However, Budiansky became burned out and remembered why he stopped writing Transformers in the first place and left the series at issue #25, when Optimus Primal falls to his death after climbing to the top of a skyscraper to save a child.
Simon Furman took over the series with issue #26 and the tone of the book quickly shifted. Optimus's crash into the ground in issue #25 caused a quantum wave which leveled most of Los Angeles (removing Jack, Uma, and Blix from the cast) and caused the cast to assume their Transmetal forms. Scorponok became Megatron's rival, resulting in a Predacon civil war. Year three culminated in the Razorclaw arc, "The Unknown Known!", where his possession of the quantum wave energy surge threatened both Maximal and Predacon alike.
The final year's four issues were seemingly not in continuity with the previous three years' stories. Many of the cartoon season 1 cast appeared in their original forms without explanation, and the stories were more or less retellings of the cartoon. The series ended with issue #49.
Chak Danger Tier List
Do you ever find yourself lost in a swarm of Chak and ask yourself "Damn, now which one should I run away from first?"
Worry no longer, as this comprehensive Chak Danger Tier List will help you out in times of need.
Chak Drone / Lurker - Danger Level 1/10
Virtually harmless. Only has close-range attacks and likely won't get to use them against you because it won't even see you until you stand literally right in front of it. And even then it doesn't manage to hit you 4 out of 5 times and eventually just walks away. Some Drones will just downright ignore you and not attack you at all. Honestly, Chak Drones and Lurkers are both stupid as bread. Case in point:
Chak Sapper / Bracer - Danger Level 2/10
(That's a Sapper. Bracers look similar enough.)
Chak Sappers and Bracers don't attack you and therefore can't actually cause any damage to you. Alas, they're usually found in groups of Chak and that is where they become annoying: Sappers tether themselves to you and make you weaker to attacks. Chak Bracers on the other hand will tether themselves to other Chak to make them immune to damage. Both Sappers and Bracers are immune to normal damage and can only be killed using CC. Not particularly dangerous on their own but can be somewhat annoying to get rid of.
Chak Blitzer - Danger Level 2.5/10
Blitzers are all bark and no bite. They're trying to make you panic by looking large and menacing, but in the end it's easy to avoid and get away from them. Blitzers use long range energy attacks to shoot at you, but are very slow (and honestly seemingly reluctant) to do so. They take a very long time charging up their own defensive shield, and once it's charged they often won't directly go for an attack. Instead, they're polite enough to give you up to three separate warnings, banging their head antennae against each other like a brawler's fists. If you're still not gone by then (and you had plenty of time at that point, so that's on you) they'll attack. If you've gotten yourself into this situation nothing's lost yet: Blitzers lose interest in you fairly quickly and don't generally chase you over a too long distance. Honestly, sometimes they'll charge up their beam and just turn around and leave.
Chak Gerent - Danger Level 5/10
(he wouldn't even look at me for a screenshot)
The Gerent himself, already? Shouldn't the king of the jungle be more dangerous than that? Well, hear me out. Is the Gerent deadly? Absolutely. The infamous ley energy donuts will kill even the most battle-hardened fighter in the blink of an eye. (So stop CCing the Gerent so he doesn't get to spawn them as much in the first place) Other than that the Gerent's large tail can pack a good punch. So why doesn't he deserve a higher danger rating then? Well, his attacks are fairly slow and predictable and generally easy to avoid. If you don't want to fight, simply walk away. He's not going to follow. The only reason we even get to encounter him in the first place is because the Pact is fumbling around with giant cannons that lure him out. If it weren't for this you'd never see this guy in your life even once. I'm sure he's a peaceful fellow usually.
Chak Slinger - Danger Level 5.5/10
Chak Slingers do the thing that Chak are known for: shoot goo. This can slow you down, and generally be pretty annoying especially if several of these gang up on you and start covering you in slubbery slime. Slingers will spot you from further away than their Drone and Lurker cousins and won't hesitate to start attacking immediately. Luckily for you, they aren't very resilient. I'm not here to advocate Chak cruelty, but getting rid of them (gently) is often the easier solution than to run away. You can't run covered in all that goo anyway.
Chak Zapper - Danger Level 6/10
Ah, Chak Zappers. The adorable hellspawn among small Chak. Much like the Slingers they use long-ranged attacks to try and make your life harder. While their ley energy zaps don't seem as annoying as the Slingers' goo at a first glance, the damage they deal can add up pretty quickly. They also seem to be able to spot you from way further than you'd ever like them to, and will not hesitate to let you know that you personally annoy them and have to go. Fortunately, they aren't very resilient either.
Chak Crown - Danger Level 8/10
Originally I thought this one would make the top of the list, because let's be honest - we've all died to that thing. It protects itself in a giant area of deadly goo which only clears once the Lobbers protecting the Crown are dead. The Crown itself though? Static, doesn't move, and once the goo is clear it's generally not much of a challenge. Still, considering the amount of lives this thing has taken with its gigantically oversized puddle of death goo and its army of Chak guards, I think it's fair to say it's dangerous enough. It also blocks the central waypoint which honestly is an asshole move.
Chak Lobber - Danger Level 9/10
Now that's the big guy you actually have to worry about. Lobbers don't fuck around, with both long range and melee attacks in their repertoire to ruin your day. They'll shoot goo to slow you down, run you over to knock you down, and once you're downed they'll ram their deadly feet into you for a PVP-finisher style instant kill move. (No, seriously.) In an open space you can try to run. If you've ventured into one of their tunnels? Say your last prayers as the last thing you'll see is a bunch of legs and eyes charging at you.
In the end noone here deserves a 10/10 because none of these is as awful as any of the jungle mushrooms.
