Chalkboard Frame

Do you have frames that you don't use? We used one of our old frames to make a cute diy chalkboard that can be used in many different ways! Why not write reminders, such as shopping lists or to-do reminders. Or, perhaps a quote that will brighten up your day?

All you need to make this easy diy idea is a frame and some chalkboard paint! Simply paint the glass with the chalkboard paint and let it dry! We painted ours three times, where we let it dry for 24 h in between.

Doorbell Cover

The culprit...

When I recently moved a grandfather clock that had been in our foyer for years, it left an unsightly doorbell exposed. I considered trashing the doorbell, but found a better solution. On a trip to Florida, at one of our favorite bar-b-que spots, I noticed a huge chalkboard in a very fancy frame. I thought it might be a fun solution to my doorbell problem, plus I am a huge fan of chalkboard art... I headed off to Hobby Lobby (my go-to supplier) to find the perfect frame. I had recently painted all of my foyer accessories "pottery barn white" (which I will share in a future post), so I knew that I wanted a white distressed frame. I found the exact frame that I wanted in gold and sprayed it antique white and distressed it with a sanding block.

The next step was to remove the doorbell cover and measure how far the doorbell extended from the wall.

The doorbell stuck out a few inches farther then what my frame would cover, so I had to build out the frame.

I used inexpensive pine wood strips that were 1 1/2"x 1/2". I cut them to the correct length. I used "L" brackets to attach the frame and wood glue to reinforce the hold. I then caulked the outside seams and painted it all to match the frame.

I hung this over the doorbell and continue to have a lot of fun with the chalkboard art!!!

A surprise bonus is the acoustics are great in the hollow of the frame, so my doorbell sounds even better!!!

But as a DIY project to keep myself busy AND to prepare some decor for our "offical church wedding" in April, I made chalkboard frames yesterday!

They are so easy and fun to make! All you need are some old picture frames and some chalkboard paint! You paint the glass with two coats and bam! Chalkboard frame!

The best part about this paint is that it's non-toxic (safe to use while pregnant or with young kids) and washes off pretty easily with soap and water! SO FUN!

I've decided that, for Christmas, I will make chalkboard frames as gifts for parent's home and for some of my friends! They are beautiful, functional, and custom-made! So totally fun gifts to give!

So I will post a photo of my chalkboard frames later. I am still waiting for one to dry. :)
