Challenge 1: Investigation, Start!

Tuna: Alright everyone. I'm sure you've at least skimmed the memo.

Tuna: I'm in charge of the lot of you, try not to be too excited. Ha.

Tuna: The task is simple. Just gotta find and retrieve this light thing. Alive. Not quite sure how you'd even kill it, though.

Tuna: It was set to be part of some gameshow as a gimmick, but the show didn't even get to start production 'coz it went missing.

Tuna: At the very least, we know it made it on set before escapin' it's containment and bookin' it to who knows where.

Tuna: Reportedly, it was kept somewhere in the basement.

Tuna: Problem is, said basement is a buncha connected rooms full of random junk.

Tuna: You'd think the show's host would be able to give us a bit of guidance.

Tuna: It owns the building, after all.

Tuna: And was going to start production on a show soon.

Tuna: But-

A napkin is blown loudly. As in, like someone's just blowing air into it, and not actually blowing a nose.

???: HOW EVER AM I TO GO ON FROM THIS?!

???: My beautiful gimmick, taken from us too soon!

???: It was too young! How am I to make back the money I invested in all this?!

???: I'm too young! Too young to be so financially ruined! Woe!! Woe is me!!!

???: Just get out a shovel, dig me my grave! Gimme a nice coffin, I want it closed casket, spacious with little pillows…

Tuna: So this is the host, and our client, the Dark. Like, all of it.

Dark: That's my name! Don't wear it out! Please!! It's all I have left!!!

Tuna: It just keeps spouting unhelpful nonsense, and dressed up weird.

Dark: Am I not allowed to mourn?! I've lost it all! Oh, how am I supposed to face my wife and kids now!?

Tuna: … You're married?

Dark: ▪️ Absolutely not! No ring could could EVER hold me down! My love is solely for getting those ratings up and up!

Tuna: So you lied.

Dark: Err… Such harsh accusations to a mourning individual…

Dark: No sympathy at all? I thought this would work well… This test run is going so bad, what am I to do if I can't milk the viewer's pity into the delectable beverage of fame…!

Tuna: Don't say it like that.

Tuna: Ugh. It's yet to drop the self-pitying schtick and tell us anything useful. Potential whereabouts, what to expect inside the building, anything like that.

Dark: The answer is SIMPLE! I'm as CLUELESS as you!

Dark: I acquired this lot through an opportune company merger. Only learned after that this spot has been passed around shows like a hot potato for ages, and no one ever bothers to clean up after themselves!

Dark: To uphold such time honored traditions, I did not look myself. And the gimmick of my wonderful show, it was going to be GREAT I tell you. I would've SWEPT the competition right out of the water, it was so new and unique and other words for really good here.

Tuna: … Right. Great. Really believe everything you've said so far.

Tuna: So team, I'm splittin' you up into two groups. No need for fancy names, so you'll just be Team A and Team B. I'm giving you different priorities to focus on, but if you think you needa do a bit of the other task to accomplish your main one, be my guest.

Team A's prioritized task is to investigate the building.

Tuna: Who knows what you'll find down there. If that story about those basements being filled with a random gameshow things is true, proceed with some caution. You know how dangerous things on those shows can be.

Team B's prioritized task is to interrogate the Darkness.

Tuna: Surely it can say something useful to the situation at hand. Where it was at the time the Light escaped, how this could've even happened, whatever. I don't care how you go about getting information out of it, do whatever you feel is right. Just know, it likes to lie. A lot. Good luck sifting through the clear contradictions for scraps of the truth.

Challenge #1 RESULTS

The judges have spoken...with a sweeping 89% of the popular vote, the winner of the childhood comfort food challenge is Marigold Brandyfoot! She has received the coveted Immunity Ring and will be safe for the next round.

The judges have also decided, after (not) much deliberation (82% of the vote), that the contestant with the worst dish is Kemen, thus making him the first character to be eliminated from the competition.

Summary: Sadie has along overdue talk with her mom

Sadie never used the paved path in the cemetery. She couldn’t tell you why; it just didn’t feel right. She just preferred to use her own path through the grass.

“Hi, Mom.” Sadie sat down in front of the gravestone and set the flowers down in front of her. “Sorry it’s been so long since I visited. I’ve been…busy.”

Busy was certainly one way to describe the last six months. Between running for her life, getting caught up in family drama, and returning a stolen item to a museum, Sadie had basically been moving non-stop.

Even when she did get a chance to rest, she didn’t have time to come home. She hadn’t really had a chance to visit since the funeral. She hated that.

“But the good news is things are gonna be much calmer for me from now on, so I’ll get to visit more,” she promised. “I’ve even got a steady job. It’s not full time music yet but…. Maybe one day.”

She sighed and closed her eyes, tilting her head back and enjoying the warmth of the sun on her face. “I wish you had let Hoyt be there for me,” she whispered. “But it’s okay. I still found my way to him. And now…. I have more family than I know what to do with. Which works out because I don’t think they know what to do with me either.” She laughed softly. “I just wish you could’ve met them too. You would’ve loved Geri…..”

A gust of wind picked up then, throwing her hair into a mess. “Yeah, yeah, shoulda-woulda-coulda doesn’t do anyone any good,” she muttered. “But still. I miss you. And I think you would’ve fit right in. I mean… I did, eventually.”

She slowly opened her eyes and tilted her head to look at the gravestone. It still looked new, despite the year that had passed since the funeral. The loss still felt raw in her heart, despite everything that had happened since then.

“I really miss you,” she repeated, touching the corner of the stone. “But you were right. I’m doing okay now. I just needed some time.” She smiled and leaned forward, gently kissing the top of the gravestone.

“I’ve gotta go now, but I love you and I’ll be back soon.” She smiled.  “Next time, I’ll bring someone I want you to meet. He’s a bit of a dork but….You’ll love him. I know I do.”

With that, Sadie slowly stood up and walked away.

A piece of her would always be here, but she was grateful for the life she had now. She had a big family, a wonderful boyfriend, and a fun job. She couldn’t ask for much more than that.
