While You Sleep...
Drabble Tag Challenge
If you’re tagged on this, you’ve been challenged to write a 100 words or more drabble of Jonerys!
You then earn the right to tag 3 people on your drabble and challenge them to do it as well. Not mandatory, but this is a fun and easy way to encourage creators and spread more fan content!
Pick from the dialogue prompts -OR- Free choice drabble.
Come up with any scene you can imagine! Only rule is that it has to be 100 words or more! Easy!
I was tagged by the lovely @mhysaofdragons
I’m challenging ...whoever is brave enough to write something because goodness knows this was actually harder than I thought. -_-
So my prompt used was: “I think I’m in love with you and I’m terrified.”
(so this is based off ‘Shadows’ - and a scene in particular, but you don’t have to know the entire story to get what’s going on. Anyhoo, enjoy!)
__
He sleeps like a child.
Yet he is rippling muscle and flesh, with a hint of a Southern tan like a painter’s stroke over his fairer Northern roots. He is all angles, hard and unforgiving her pencil agrees as it flies across the page as colorful as his last name.
However, angles give way to curves; a natural softness to break the monotony. It’s his hair, that stubborn mass of raven curls determined to have a say in how long they grow, all vying for the chance to dance across his forehead and cheeks as often as possible. It’s his lips, swollen from kisses and whispered words of passionate encouragement still resonating like an unfinished symphony in the aftermath of their consummation.
It’s in lashes that seem to flutter before lifting slowly to reveal eyes of deepest grey – like lurking thunderstorm skies – eventually morphing into orbs of warm recognition.
She holds her breath, pencil poised in mid-flight to its destination. She wonders if she can conjure up a suitable excuse, of why she chooses to sketch him in such a state, barely covered by her favorite quilt while she sits crossed-legged as nude as her name day studying him in silence.
However, coherent thought becomes elusive when the low raspy words rumble off his chest, “I think I’m in love with you, Dany… and I’m terrified.”
She forgets to breathe.
And he smiles. Shy. Hopeful. Wondering…perhaps…maybe…while her heart soars and the world seems to tilt on its axis and a choir of angels begin to sing somewhere in the back-
But she blinks and reality returns with the ragged sound of a light snore and a repose still unbroken.
It had all been in her head, those whispered words a reflection of what she can never say out loud. She places a hand upon her chest in which a quivering heart continues to beat in rhythm to what should have been. He isn’t hers, she knows. He belongs to many, and her time is limited. It is foolhardy to feel this way, yes, terrifying to know he affects her this much.
But -
Perhaps someday, she muses as she adds a finishing stroke to her most precious work yet, tucks the sketchbook aside, and curls into his sinewy warmth again. With a finger, she traces the broad expanse of his chest before drawing a large heart around his right breast. It is punctuated with her name scribbled within the invisible shape, and she blushes at her silly antics.
She knows her limitations and struggles against them every day, a fight she is no longer willing to give up. For someday, those words will break free from their internal prison to serenade him with a truth no longer capable of remaining hidden in her veil of tormented silence.
Someday.
Swerve aesthetics and quotes for @starceptor
It is my firm belief that Swerve likes quotes about loneliness in crappy fonts pasted onto random aesthetic photos in ms paint. That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it

#1k pages update
So, the end of another challenge. I realise this one ended two days ago (oops). Oh well, I’m doing it now.
So, for the total number of pages read, let’s look at the books I read first.
The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy (The Montague Siblings, #2) by Mackenzi Lee. 250 pages read (since beginning of challenge only). BOOK FINISHED.
Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer. 387 pages read. BOOK FINISHED.
Circe by Madeline Miller. 220 pages read. BOOK UNFINISHED.
So that brings my total to (*insert drum roll here*) 857.
Even though I didn’t get to 1000 pages, I got close, I think, and I’m pretty proud of what I managed to achieve.
But - as I already know - the total number of pages read is not really the point of this challenge. This challenge is about making reading fun and enjoyable - and I definitely succeeded.
Thanks again to @books-and-cookies for hosting this challenge once again. I’ll see you guys around until the next one!
