So I have been in law school for quite a while now. Even though I absolutely love it, I feel like literally EVERYBODY has their shit together more than me. I have seen people that you would not expect to be right for this job doing at least 10 times better that me. Which is fine and I am happy for them because they put a lot of work in! But how the fuck am I going to succeed? Like I feel like whatever I do, I simply can't get it right and manage to get my shit together?! HELP (love you blog btw)
I would like to take this opportunity to let everyone who feels like this in on a secret
Law School Is Designed To Make You Feel Like A Fuck Up
Collecting failures like they’re beanie babies is part of the gig. Because, and this is the important part, when the time comes to be a lawyer, you could literally do everything right in a case and still lose. Like, bit the pavement and got curb-stomped on lose.
And that history of fuck ups you’ve dealt with is going to be the backbone upon which you prop yourself up and keep doing your job the next day. And it’s going to make you a better lawyer and help you keep your sanity where others would fall into a ball crying and not be able to look at another case.
So, that being said, let me address your specific case:
1) Everyone is faking it. You’re just seeing them on their good days. Guarantee you that every person you see killing it has also fallen on the floor of their apartment and cried in sheer frustration.
2) You’re still in law school? You’re succeeding.
3) Getting your shit together is a matter of personal preference and deciding what your priorities are. But also if you’re actually legitimately struggling go check out @fuckstudy because she’s always got a ton of legitimately good advice and I’m over here just cursing and saying “you do you” most of the time.
