These two girls are sitting outside at the coffee shop I’m trying to study/work at. Other people are trying to study. Admittedly these two were here first.
But every other word is, “My F***ing ex and his f***ing cheating and I was so f***ing mad and I’m just a f***ing eater. Like, I definitely ATE that weekend,” and LOUD laughing. And I’m just…
AMERICANS. Of which I am one, also admittedly.
WHY Y’ALL SO LOUD. WHY DOES EVERYONE ELSE NEED TO KNOW YOUR BUSINESS. THE WORLD POPULATION HAS NEVER BEEN HIGHER AND YET YOU ARE ALONE ON THE PLANET??? WHY CAN’T WE USE COURTESY?
Since, in usual Tumblr fashion, we have no single tagging convention for the new Avengers movie, I am going to go ahead and see it today so y'all don't spoil me.
Edit: When I post about it, and I will, feel free to tag 'avengers 3'.
About Doc Kimble. If you don’t want to hear a rant about him, don’t reeeaaad:
Who on EARTH thought that was an LI ANYONE would be interested in?
I watched the whole thing on YT before committing in my own pt, and just.... UGGH. Seriously? The guy is a lecherous, douchebag with no humility and brings absolutely NO gratification to the interaction. He is demeaning. Everything is about him. Kari Wahlberg’s voice turns ‘little woman’ on a dime. If I wanted to see a woman interested in saving a man from himself, I would watch 80s army movies. Or Seth McFarlane. Or any other canned filth that has no place in my world.
I kept waiting for there to be some kind of turn around, some hidden past that might show some kind of justification, however scant for his lewd and arrogant behavior. NOoooooo. Nothing!
I flirted with him twice to open up the possibility and every single interaction after that, no matter how you berate him or put him down, he pursues. He acts like you haven’t just called him out on every undesirable trait in his person. He even proposes marriage and the ONLY way you can say, “NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS, YOU SUBPAR HUMAN,” is to say, “Lo, I am a Jedi, it can never be and should never have been.”
It’s completely unsatisfying. The only interaction that was amazing when my Jedi told him, “Ugh, this whole conversation has put me off my appetite,” and leaves, only for him to yell, “Well..! You- uh, don’t have to eat with me! But take care of yourself!”
Complete waste of time.
Now.
Scourge, on the other hand.
Even with his jerkness about the Exile (retconned, I’ll never believe it), he is at least interesting. And not just “everything should be evil!” because that’s boring, but “everything should be smart, and done for a reason, and if it happens to be evil, so be it.” Why couldn’t HE have been an LI? THAT would have been interesting.
I can't even remember what the title of this episode was. I just know... what I feel inside. And what I feel inside is under the cut. Cut for spoilers just in case anyone hasn't season all of season 3 yet.
OK, even though I said all of season 3, I'm really only talking about the third episode, in which all the douchery comes out. And my roommate (who is hacking up a lung because someone used commercial strength bleach to clean her room and then didn't ventilate) is laughing her head off.
I guess here are the main problems that I had with it:
Sherlock's douchery. The first episode of the season tried to show a "kinder, gentler" Sherlock. He was still a jerk, but he at least knew that he should be apologetic for faking his death. He was kind to Molly and he let Greg hug him (even while being, well, himself about it).
In episode 2 he starts to revert to type. His speech at the wedding was pretty spot on for him, and he still manages to charm everyone even though he's pretty much being a big old dick. In episode 3 he's the worst, though, if only because of what he does to Janine. Not that he left it alone at Janine, but Janine as an example will suffice. But do we get to see any of that play out? Her revenge? No.
My mom once said that Forrest Gump was the ultimate male fantasy because a man was able to act however he wanted and say whatever he wanted with absolutely no accountability. I always felt a little bad about that analogy because it seemed to me that the point was that FG was mentally handicapped and still overcame, but she did have a point.
SHERLOCK IS THE ULTIMATE MALE FANTASY. He gets away with every despicable comment, action, thought, etc. with no repercussions. Pretend to be dead? We all forgive you! Hide out in a crack house for a month? Slap, slap, slap- all forgiven! Be a general asshole and- oh, I'm sorry, you threw someone a crumb of human decency and they should be at your beck and call? And truly, a slap in the face doesn't even count as a repercussion because that's the least of what he deserves. Someone's reaction in the heat of the moment is not the same as seeing justice and consequences played out over time (and don't even get me started on how much I want to love Molly but can't because of how Moffat writes her).
The science. I know that the show has never been beside itself with science in terms of overly long explanations of science, but they have shown Sherlock using equipment and Molly and John's a doctor and so you'd think that they would have foregone the completely artistic side of Mary's shooting him.
The memory palace is a real deal. But they went overboard with it and Sherlock's processing power in what would have, realistically, been an intuitive response and not so thought out- with references to Molly, that guy from Scotland Yard, and even Mycroft. Would twinges of those people been SO present in his subconscious? No.
Plus, I'm sure howtowritefight would tell you that such a physical response, and the show clearly portrayed it as a CHOICE and not a reaction, would only come from years of physical conditioning and practice. Which Sherlock does not have. He's not that guy.
That said, I admit I did not suspend disbelief until they started describing what it would be like to "go into shock." They completely confused circulatory shock and emotional shock, but when someone has been fatally shot, and is losing blood and the words, "you're going into shock," are spoken, what is generally meant? I ask you. As if Sherlock's body would even be capable of producing the types of spasms BC was acting out. Um, nope. Read this. Just read it. If they meant emotional shock they should have been the 'excellent writers' they are and written it more clearly. Oh yeah, and then Sherlock restarts his own heart. THROUGH SHEER WILL POWER. Is this shoujo magical girl stuff? Seriously.
MELODRAMA. Gooooood GRIEF, I was covering my mouth to hide my laughter at some points of the episode. Moriarty's initial reappearance in the straight jacket and chains? That was... that was completely ridick. Unnecessary and more of a paycheck for Andrew Scott than any real necessity to see Moriarty.
Basically that entire "Sherlock is dying, but not really" scene. Just the whole thing.
Any moment with CAM. Enough. Dude was creepy Mccreeperson.
Mary's return to "badassery" a term I use lightly because Mary Watson is so much cooler than whoever that woman reverting to assassin mode was.
Any flashback with Sherlock as a kid. [I admit the part with Redbeard got to me, but that's because my dog had to be put down recently and has less to do with the show.] But especially the part where he shoots CAM (and why? They could have just as easily recorded the conversation with CAM and exposed him, good grief; and who would have honestly convicted Sherlock after what CAM had done to all of them?) and then reverts to chubby-faced, curly-haired adolescent Sherlock?
And then of course he gets to come BACK to no-accountability land because someone puts up a ventriloquist doll of Moriarty. If they bring Moriarty back and explain it as vaguely as they did Sherlock's resurrection, I quit. They had better explain it as someone else using his likeness to freak people out because that is the best explanation. Otherwise, they are going to string the audience along with a, "OH YOU WANNA KNOW HOW HE CAME BACK AFTER SHOOTING HIMSELF IN THE HEAD? HE JUST DID. DEAL WITH IT," explanation, and that ain't cool.
