The format is straightforward. Every Monday starting at 5pm, they serve a set menu for $28 per person, excluding drinks, tax, and tip. This is a 3-course meal at a Vancouver restaurant, you can't even get a cocktail for that price nowadays, so the price is not only surprising, it's revolutionary.

Catching up on that Pacific Northwest trip! A brief Belgian brunch at Chambar started off our morning in Vancouver before we went to the airport. We ordered orange juice, kombucha, and a couple waffles with mixed berry compote and chocolate.

My sister had the Bol Santé with avocado, turmeric & cashew butter, spinach, preserved red cabbage, tahini, hempseed, and savory granola. I ordered the Fricassée which had braised short ribs, balsamic cipollini onions, potatoes, watercress, applewood smoked cheddar, and a fried eggs.

Then it was time to head to Vancouver International Airport. We hung out at Canucks Bar and Grill for a bit where I caught some of the Devils game and ordered a beer. It was St. Paddy’s Day after all. 😉

Off to Seattle!

The flight from Vancouver to Seattle was around an hour.

We took an Uber to our Airbnb. Oh, it was so nice to access the oh-so-convenient Uber app again. Vancouver, please get on that!

I managed to find a great apartment downtown right across Pier 55 and near the public market. It was a really nice complex with a perfect location!

The view overlooking the pier and ferris wheel was so nice!

For dinner, I made a reservation at Eden Hill in Queen Anne. The cozy restaurant features a seasonal menu offering sharable New American plates as well as a tasting menu. I had a seat at the counter.

I decided to order a la carte and started off with a glass of white wine and Humboldt Bay Kumamoto Oysters with pickled blueberry mignonette, shallot, and black pepper. I absolutely adore Kumamotos.

Next was the Cured Filet Mignon Carpaccio with celery root, black radish, horseradish, and carrot kimchi tuile (crisp wafer). It was a nice medley of flavors and textures. I also had a couple glasses of Syrah from Columbia Valley, Washington.

Then I tried a half rack of Grilled Iberico Pork Ribs with a roasted quince and Eagle Rare bourbon glaze. They were not fall-of-the-bone tender, you had to bite and cut with a knife, but the sauce was tasty.

I was still hungry and decided to order their off-menu Sunday burger which had two beef patties, bacon jam, blue cheese, and a locally baked bun with a side of crispy herb onion rings. It was great.

I had to try their popular dessert, “Lick The Bowl”, presented with pieces of pound cake, strawberry slices, sprinkles, and a small bowl of foie gras cake batter. It even had a cute mini spatula. The entire things is dusted with powdered sugar. You had me at foie gras cake batter! Yum!

Dinner at Eden Hill was good and I enjoyed the inventive dishes and cozy atmosphere.

Back towards the area of the apartment, I checked out the slightly disturbing, yet somewhat mesmerizing Gum Wall located in an alleyway in Post Alley. The brick wall covered in used chewing gum began around 1993 when patrons of the Unexpected Productions Improv Theater stuck their used gum on the wall. It has grown piece by piece to cover an enormous portion of the brick wall and continues to expand down the alleyway. 

I mentioned that it was St. Paddy’s after all. So I stopped by Blarney Stone Pub & Restaurant for Guinness and some live music before walking back to the apartment.
