Christmas holiday book recommendations

Looking for a book to cuddle up with during the christmas holidays? Here are some that I really enjoyed reading recently. 

Book 1

BOOK 2:

Have you ever wondered how plants perceive their environment? What makes them grow towards the sun? How do they know when winter is coming? Do they really communicate with each other when predators are around? 

Although this might sound esoteric, this book is far away from tree-hugger fantasies of feeling and self-conscious plants. It's strictly scientific and fascinating and enjoyable to read for biologists and non-biologists alike. It describes for example the mechanisms with which plants react to touch and draws parallels to human senses. It also deals with genes that are similar in animals and plants but serve very different purposes, pointing out the evolutionary relationship between the plant and the animal kingdom. 

If you take the plants around you for granted or never really spend much thought on how they grow and survive, you should definitly read this book for a refreshing change of perspective.
