Remember Owelia, the halfling Volstrucker? What if things took a different turn for her? For the better. And? If something happened that made her lose most of her memories like her name and that she was a Volstrucker except remembering her childhood home and a fragment or two from the academy that made her decide to leave it in the past and come up with a new name and surname.
And what if? Fjord didn’t go to Nicodranas right away and the betrayal on the ship happened a month before he ran into Jester? He found a halfling lady with amnesia and helped her get to a healer in a small fishing village nearby where they could also get food in exchange for a few copper coins and some manual labour.
He discovers his powers one by one and gets some practice in, his halfling friend remembers some spells and tests them trying to remember more but at the same time doesn’t want to remember more things from the academy…a red haired young man, a blonde woman she also remembers as older but with a scar, a tall man who smiles coldly and tells her she’s not among the top three students.
Owelia was here betrayed by an oc - a human Volstrucker, Elna that had been her partner on some missions- that left her for dead after the latest mission to get a special spell scroll went sideways. Elna uses many of the same poison and insect specific spells Owelia uses and is the Volstrucker Beau and Caleb etc encounters instead of Owelia. Caleb still recognizes her as a Volstrucker because she was in the same class as him, Owelia, Astrid and Wulf.
Anyway I gathered from the little I saw of Owelia that she can be silently threatening, seems serious, is professional, probably has a dry wit. Can be petty if you challenge her as a frenemy. I’d put her as someone with morbid gallows humor who remembers having fun as a kid but rarely indulged in fun as a Volstrucker, had her first heartbreak when she was 15 due to the training regime and brainwashing making her change so much her sweetheart broke up with her, then had the occasional fling with men and women but it never lasted long because of her work as a Volstrucker. It’s a job you can never truly clock out from.
Fjord and her become friends and act like siblings. She knows his real accent and appreciates he can be serious - and that he has a soft side - (she would never tell him she likes that side of him though) while he appreciates her resilience and courage. They both decided to assume new identities sort of - The young captain Stone on a sabbatical and the mage halfling, Calla Swiftshadow.
The duo then travel to Nicodranas - get caught up in Jesters shenanigans and lord Sharpes extremely violent retaliation. Fjord has far better control over his powers but still lets off an eldrich blast at the arc, cursing under his breath as he’s having moments of doubts and anxiety that won’t just magically vanish. Jester says she can lead them through town to a safer space and they follow her lead, eventually meets her mother and promises her to travel with Jester to Zadash.
Imagine after the events at the carnival, the tension in that jailcell when Calla! Owelia pushes down her hood and Caleb sees her. After a tumultuous moment Caleb sit down again - the lady has amnesia and is on another path now but he can’t fully trust her. What if she remembers more? But they need to get out of there and clear their names.
When they return it’s Elna that confronts them after killing the prison staff.
Fjord gets hit but it’s not until mid battle this time, Calla! Owelia tries to remember what the antidote is - and works with Nott, Jester and Molly to save him. She is uneasy about Caleb and Beau interrogating Elna even if she remembers her as the one that attacked her and left her for dead.
