FileMaker Becomes Claris International
By far, the biggest news from FileMaker DevCon 2019 is the announcement of the transition to Claris International. There’s been quite a bit of buzz around the topic in the FileMaker circles. This post is a small piece of that buzz.
Amongst all the expected changes, the one that sticks out to me is the new focus on an expanded service and product line up. In particular, the new focus on cloud-based computing and greater integration options. This will open doors for even greater possibilities for FileMaker!
One question is how far will FileMaker the Product become FileMaker the Service. We have been assured that the product line will remain intact for the most part. Most likely the service will provide greater integration and other capabilities for the product line. It’ll be like a bridge between the two. This is a welcome expansion. And, it will be very exciting to see how things work out. Personally, I look forward to bringing together more systems to automate as much as necessary and possible to help streamline client businesses and improve their company culture!
As for the name...a return to a recognized brand brings about both nostalgia and excitement for the future. For those who were there to witness the original incarnation of Claris, we will remember the good and not-so-good from those days. Either way, a clearer focus on expansion of the FileMaker platform and the services surrounding it is a breath of freshness needed to ensure its longevity and growth while maintaining its signature easy-to-use, nearly intuitive entry point. Kudos, Mr. Freitag, for the new vision and direction to go even further for our clients, the brand, and the community!
