Rome // We who Fell in love with the sea
"No gods, no masters, no masters slave
I no longer serve you, nor your palace of flesh"
By Brandon Fincher
Pietro d’Abano, musical director of the famous Garson Opera House has recently acquired an estate sale containing the original score for an accursed opera entitled Chanson Noir.
Rumor has it the opera was only performed once since its creation and all those in attendance died when the theater was burned to the ground. It is said that the composer, a seventeenth century occultist named Jacques Collin, wrote the opera as a love letter to the famous Soprano Gabrielle Sanguin, but she rejected his advances and refused to perform it, so he murdered her, and in a dark ritual, wrote the score out in her blood, binding her spirit to the the very parchment itself. History shows Collin went mad after this act and is reported to have died inside an asylum.
Intending to capitalize on the infamous history of the opera, Director d’Abano has announced that the Garson Opera House would open the season with Chanson Noir, a move that has stirred up intense interest for the ailing opera company. d’Abano has been thrilled with tickets sales, but he was not prepared for the true cost of putting on Chanson Noir. Several strange occurrences have begun taking place inside the opera house that have escalated with the recent death of the production’s female lead, Lenora Mills.
Police are ruling the death an accident, but in reality the vengeful spirit of Gabrielle Sanguin has begun possessing the lead understudy, Christina Peterson, and has driven her to murder the former female lead in the hopes she can keep Chanson Noir from ever seeing the light of day.
