A something something something Barricade Day to everyone!
Oh, look, another picture with no people, no violence, no nothing! I'd claim artistic license, but the truth is that I simply hadn't had the time: I'd actually drafted and roughed out eight pages filled with people and events (and a fair amount of bodies), before I realised that I wasn't going to be able to perform three-day miracles. So five pages (and one panel) of empty are all that are going up.😬
lol okay, I told Tumblr to stop using the custom domain, and then went and set up some redirects so old Tenlittlebullets Dot Net permalinks will silently bump you over to the Tumblr URL. soooo the top-right interaction buttons should work now.
.....of course this sent me down a horrible rabbit hole trying to get either my domain registrar or Cloudflare to do the redirect properly
during which I kind of... accidentally... found the fix... for the gnarly DNS errors and timeouts that've had Chanvrerie Dot Net down since uh... sometime last August... look, I really hate troubleshooting DNS bullshit, okay
anyway, Carpe Horas is back up!
(tech kvetching under the cut)
which promptly sent me down another rabbit hole of website maintenance, backups, software updates, and "where the FUCK did those gallery files go," so bear with me for a while on some of those pages
and look, look, Softaculous may be a weenie point-and-click toy substitute for actual web administration or whatever, but it autodetected my ancient broken MediaWiki installation for the annotation project and brought it up to date in like. three. clicks. which is by far the most spookily painless interaction with MediaWiki i have ever had in my godforsaken life.
anyway, we'll see how the redirect solution holds up for this Tumblr, and if all goes well i'll probably descend back into the Cloudflare abyss and change Shinelikethunder Dot Blog over as well soon
btw if any of you Brick nerds would like An Subdomain on chanvrerie.net, and/or hosting for a static HTML fansite, hit me up
yeah, i know, the wordplay opportunities aren't as exciting as ye olde frenchboys.net subdomains. but the vintage 2005 Old Web vibes of the whole setup are just as flawless. web interface? CMS? databases? fuck that, just assemble a monstrous pile o' files and upload them to my webhost over FTP, bro. i'll walk you through it if you want. no "platforms", we die like men: doing literally whatever the fuck we want to our webpages
i've got plenty of room (like, maybe if you need multiple gigs of disk space you'll have to sell me on it first? but There's Room) and it should be a pretty easy one-time setup on my end. so seriously - hit me up. tumblr chat or whatever.
in the last 24 hours i have managed to upload all of volume 4 (with considerable help from historymaker, who apparently singlehandedly uploaded the first 3 volumes) & book 1 of volume 5. tbh all the copy/pasting is quite relaxing and every once in a while a quote catches my eye. which made me smile. and then cry who am i kidding i just went through la guerre entre quatre murs *sobs*
