Chao Week 2026 is a fanweek/prompt challenge hosted by Project Chao and dedicated to our favourite game creatures – Chao from Sonic the Hedgehog franchise 🍊 The main tag for the event on our blog is #Chao Week. This year it runs from August 17th to August 23rd, and there are a total of 14 prompts which can be viewed here. Below you'll find the Rules and Posting guidelines for the event. They're subject to corrections, so always check before posting your work!
Anyone can participate! It’s what you create for the event that matters.
Your work for the challenge must be Chao-centric, but other canon characters and OCs are allowed to be there as well.
It must be created by you specifically for the event, so no gen AI and no reposts of any kind – whether it’s your old work, official art or other fans’ creations.
It must be public and free to view. If you link to a work hosted offsite, it must not be paywalled or locked behind a privacy filter.
The event is SFW – same as our zines.
Entries must be compliant with the community guidelines of the platform you're posting on. Here are Tumblr User Guidelines.
Aside from the above restrictions, in the spirit of our project, any type of creations are accepted so long that they're transformative in some way. To name a few: art, fic, music, video edits, GIF-sets, photography, mixtapes, crafts, recipes and so on. There are no minimal requirements, and mixed media is welcome!
For this event we’ll accept written work in any language, we only ask for tags and the info to be in English.
If you’re referencing or using other fans’ work in your submission (for example, a moodboard or a video edit), you should have permission to do so and properly credit the original authors. By the way, full-on collabs are allowed, too.
When it comes to the prompts, you don’t have to use them exactly, your work can just be inspired by them. You can even do multiple entries for one prompt! Prompts may be done in any order or combination, and it’s okay to combine prompts with another event so long that the other event allows it as well.
Completion of all prompts is not required to participate. Feel free to skip any prompt you don’t want to do. There’s no penalty for not finishing, and we might shout out the ones who completed at least one prompt a day, but otherwise there are no rewards either.
State clearly which main or alternative prompt(s) you used. Take note: if you post early, your post will only be shared on the date of the prompt.
