Trivia
Did somebody say Trivia???
#16 Sam in almost all his verses was named after his mother’s brother, his uncle Samuel, who passed away when they were children due to pneumonia. In the mainverse, Sam almost died from a high fever when he was young but survived, to which his grandfather said it proved he was a ‘fighter’.
#17 In The Nightmare Before Christmas verse, Samhain has no parents because he is one of the many reincarnations of the spirit Samhain. Born out of pure ancestrial magick, he takes after a human form because he is fated to be the spirit of Halloween for the human realm. Unlike his other verses, he grows old, dies and is reborn again with no memory of his past self.
#18 Axel’s blog tag (;the devil you know) is derived from the idiom ‘better the devil you know than the devil you don’t’ which means it’s sometimes better to deal with someone or something you’re familiar with, even if they’re not ideal, than take a risk with the unknown. This also refers to how Samhain justifies his partnership with Axel. Samhain hates everything Axel stands for, but says it is better to be associated with him in order to keep track of what he does rather than ignoring and letting him roam free.
#19 In early development, Axel was introduced to be nothing more than the duo’s anti-thesis as well as ultimate antagonist. In the original canon, Axel and Samhain were to have a final showdown resulting in the two ending each other; a bittersweet ending where both characters were put out of their misery as they both pined for death in their own way. The idea was scrapped as Axel’s world and backstory expanded, and making Samhain less of a depressed, low-key suicidal soul.
#20 The first time Samhain [mainverse] met the mermaids that liked to frequent Sundown’s Silent Coves, they persuaded him to have a dip with them and almost drowned him. It was also the day he realized he couldn’t swim very well with skeletal arms.
