4. Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw

Rufus Shinra from Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

I love drawing him but he’s one of those characters where the need for perfection makes me fumble because if I don’t get his eyes or his hair right, it doesn’t look like the character. That damn swathe of hair eludes me so!

And I can already picture someone saying “pfft skill issue” YOUD BE RIGHT! I don’t draw him enough to the point where it’d come easy to me. So shame on me! 😂😭

But man when I do get the hair and eyes just right its so satisfying 😌

16. Something you are good at but don't really have fun doing

Comics!

I feel like this is a weird answer because I do love doing comics, and I think I’m good at them, but I don’t have fun with doing the page layout; figuring out frames and dialog. I’m slow with them because each frame is it’s own art piece, and when it comes to serious comics I want to do my best to convey a good story flow. Even when Im doing silly comics I still get hung up a little. I need solid direction on what I want to do, but it’s just how I am!

26. What's a piece that got a wildly different interpretation from what you intended

There’s so many I could pick from during my devArt days. And its not even like the message of the piece was misinterpreted a lot of times it was someone going “lol why does this character look like theyre doing x” and then I can’t unsee it and then I’d just get repeating comments.

But my BIGGEST one is the fuss my OC Geist had caused.

This was her old design, just my own interpretation of what a child of Spirit and Rain would look like. A drop in the bucket among hundreds of other interpretations. And a lot of folks went with a buckskin tobiano design. No big deal, right?

Unfortunately, for some folks, my design was far TOO close to another oc who belonged to a popular artist in the space. And I got accused of theft A LOT. As well as a lot of passive aggressive remarks “hmmm Geist looks suspiciously a lot like X character but that could just be me ^^” “funny, X character has the same markings” (they didn’t) it got so bad the artist folks were “defending” had to speak up and tell people to knock it off.

Libertad belongs to an artist on Devart who went by the name Leadmare. I can see why people would see the similarities but I did not appreciate how people accused me

I should talk about the journey I had with Geist back in 2022 later. I briefly mentioned it once in a previous post but I never got to share all the information I learned since!

27. Do you warm up before getting to the good stuff? If so, what is it you draw to warm up with

Depends on my mood because sometimes I do want to get to the good stuff! I used to do gesture drawings as a warm up but in time they kind of did the opposite and uninspired me. Nowadays I do little thumbnails! Which is still like gesture drawings but specifically catered to me! I’ll make little doodles of how I want a pose or scene to play out, and practice emotions of a character.

Sooooo I created another Zora OC to rp with my babe, love of my life @chaotic-zora and Axel romanced Thresh first and then ended up falling for Nyvor and then is now betrothed to Silvyr too. It's funny/cute how quickly things spiral when you're married and playing in the sandbox of OC's. Anyways this was a silly quick sketch that ended up turning into a full piece.

Axel is the blue fish in the middle, he is a pirate captain father of an adopted adorable child, and this is his first time dating and now he's IN IT.

I'm curious to know more about Zarakhrus. I read his bio and - within the Forbidden Sea, does he have an area of territory that he has claimed? Does he live in it alone, or are there others there with him (those he's established bonds with)? What would generally happen if someone ran into him in the forbidden sea? He a fight on sight sorta fish? A talker? Or more of the I'm going to dissuade you from coming near me by posturing threateningly?

Would love to hear anything else about him as well, very cool character!

Zarakhrus, he's often a bit of a wild card he might turn on his employer the second he sees his job is not worth it. Zarakhrus does indeed own a small little territory for himself he does share it with what he calls his misfit crew.

When he was fairly new to the Forbidden Sea, Zarakhrus was the type of Zora to fight does who looked stronger than him, which resulted in him gaining numerous injuries as he didn't have much of a winning streak back then.

Now, whenever he encounters someone, he watches them a bit before he approaches them. He's a sly talker and would use flirting to get the better end of the deal, although it's usually a 50/50 whenever he does it.

I don't have any names for his misfit crew, but I do have a vague idea of a zora. Maybe some sort of old grumpy medic or something.

Also, I tested it out on the real thing below and a nomf-ing embouchure that focuses the air with the tongue kinda works! So all you out there with beaked characters can go ahead and give them wind instruments. You're still outta luck with brass though, sorry!

A little earlier…

Lurona thought she was getting closer to catching Kaso, but that youngest child of hers seemed a master at keeping just one step ahead of her. One moment she heard his voice coming from one direction, and in the next, just as quickly, she heard it in the opposite direction. The hunt was already becoming aggravating - and then, when she swore she heard him yelling obscenities, she felt her blood beginning to boil. 

The moment she found the person who started him on that, there would be hell to pay. 

In a way, Lurona was both frustrated and grateful that the search kept her away from her family and others. On the one hand, chasing Kaso put her in a sour mood, and she didn’t want to ruin the fun everyone else was having. On the other, she also hated always being the odd one out. Her sisters, Luna and Leta, were taking Kaska around the island to look at the sights, and it pained her knowing how she would miss out. And here she was, four-time mate to one of the starring performers on this island, chasing after a son who was no doubt in a bout of wrestling-related escapades she was obligated to spoil.

Lurona stopped in her tracks and sighed.

“...It’s not fair–”

“LUUUUUROOOONAAAAAAAAA!!!!”

Lurona may not have had time to process it, but the instant she was swept into his mighty hug and lifted off her feet, she knew who had called her immediately.

“Fat Fin!”

A surge of emotions came over her; familiarity, safety, relief, joy. Concern slowly bled in, however, when she realized he had never shouted her name like that. Squirming in his arms to look up, she saw a stupid smile plastered across his face.

“...Hhhhhey,” he drawled.

“...Hi? Uhhh, Fat Fin are you alright?”

“IIIII'm good now.” 

He leered. Lurona could feel her face growing hot, a sensation all the more exaggerated by the hot, moist air he chuffed into her face…and Fat Fin was nowhere near finished, either. Still holding her up, the massive zorca took a breath, then shoved his face into her chest, motorboating her right on the spot. 

Lurona squirmed, laughed and screamed all at once.

“FAT FIN!!” she shouted, her expression twisting wildly between mirth and terror. “FAT FIN, THERE’S PEOPLE HERE!”

He pushed up against her. She could feel him growl into her neck.

“Let’s make them jealous.”

There was a brief moment where she considered it. Oh, to just give in. Oh, to nuzzle and bite one another in a shameless display of public affection…

…But the need to be responsible was greater. There was their youngest on the loose, after all. 

Lurona pushed away enough so she could look him in the eyes, taking at least some solace in letting her palms sink into those meaty pecs of his. After all, if she had to extricate herself from this embrace, then by Hylia she would at least take some base pleasures in the process. Sadly (for her, at least), that was when she saw how dilated Fat Fin’s pupils were. 

Then she noticed the other issues: how labored his breathing was. The bruises and scrapes lining his arms from one end to the other. The contusions on his head and chest, the former of which threatened to swell his eye shut. His slack jaw, his unsteady head bob, the way that, despite talking directly towards her, he seemed to be staring at something thirty feet past her. She knew it took a lot to get him in that state.

“Fat Fin—Fin,” she said, abruptly changing her tone. “Tell me what’s wrong.”

“Ahhhhhh, nothing’s wrong,” he slurred. “I feel great, actually!! Had a filling lunch, went for a brisk swim, met the other tournament contestants. Got them a couple of gifts while I was at it! I was thinking of going back and getting a few autographs, wanna come with?”

“That sounds great, but I really have to go find Kaso–”

That got his attention.

“Wait. Kaso’s missing?”

“He ran off to get autographs of his own,” she explained. “It wouldn’t be an issue; I'd just feel better if he wasn’t doing it alone.”

Fat Fin took a deep breath, eased up on his grip around Lurona, and set her down. She still held onto him, eyeing him, trying to glean whatever she could regarding his physical condition. Tracing his arms as she descended from his grip, she could feel his muscles were taut. Fat Fin was always so relaxed, but even in his currently playful nature there was something wound up about him.

Something was wrong, especially when he brightened up.

“I’ll go find him!” he exclaimed.

“What? No, I’d rather do it myself. Actually—no, wait, how about we go together?”

“No, no, no no no no no, no, you shouldn’t have to be chasing after him allllllll day. Relaaaaaax, go see the sights. Seriously! It’ll take me four seconds!”

“Really. How are you going to find him in four seconds?”

“Watch!”

Fat Fin stepped away from her, stalking off in a random direction. Lurona was about to call after him, to point him in the last direction she saw Kaso run off to, but she never got the chance.

After all, Fat Fin took barely four strides before face-planting the sand.

Lurona rushed to his side and pulled him back just enough to get his face out of the sand.

“Well…you weren’t wrong. That was exactly four seconds.”

“Three…point…fiiiiiiiiiiiiiive.”

Lurona sighed. She had secretly hoped they could have done something together, even if it was finding Kaso. 

But of course someone had to be the reasonable one.

“I NEED A MEDIC!!!”

Presently

“Allow me to tend to your wounds and restore your health.”

Lurona watched the zora medic’s hand emit a glowing light that hovered over Fat Fin’s hand, fascinated by how it slowly began to knit his wounds closed. She never saw a healer’s magic up close before; even standing in their presence helped her feel calmer. 

Physically, the zora was rather impressive. She had never seen one with a tail so long, and their teeth were equally impressive! She did notice them sporting a funny pair of star shaped glasses on their head, though; she couldn’t put her finger on why those looked familiar.

Fat Fin, on the other hand, still looked off. Getting him to sit down, at least, was an improvement.

“How are you feeling?”

“I’m fiiiiine,” he drawled. 

Exhibit one showing you’re not, she thought.

Lurona didn’t even have to respond, the look she gave him said enough.

Time was being wasted. With Fat Fin in good hands, she felt assured enough that he could be left in the care of the medic. 

“I’m going to go find Kaso now.”

It looked as if Fat Fin were about to say something, but Lurona gave him a pointed look. He remained silent.

“Behave.” She spoke in a tone that would brook no nonsense.

“Yes, Ma’am.”

“I’ll be back with Kaso as soon as I find him. You don’t have to wait up, since you have a match later. I’ll meet with you when I can, I guess.”

Lurona was good with commanding attention with her words, but every so often, her feelings would betray her. Fat Fin caught the brief expression of defeat before she squared herself for another round of chasing Kaso. She had some hope. While watching the medic work on Fat Fin she caught the sound of her son’s voice again. His string of questions were always easy to pick out from a noisy crowd.

“Lurona—”

“Please look after him,” she said, addressing the medic…and only the medic. 

She turned, but not before glancing at Fat Fin with an expression of longing and regret. Then she was gone.

Fat Fin sighed.

The buzzing in his head was still constant, as was the pent-up energy within him demanding to be spent. It made it difficult to sit still, giving him the everpresent sensation of a wind-up toy whose key had been turned a dozen times past its maximum.

He knew whatever had Lurona upset was not simply about Kaso. He also knew that while he may not have done anything specifically wrong to upset her, Fat Fin’s condition did not help matters in the slightest.

He tried to focus on something besides the noise in his head. He turned his attention to the medic still tending to his hand.

“Thank you” was all he could think to say.
