Hunter x Hunter 415: Fury Quest

Okay you know it's a great HxH chapter when we're starting with some weirdo video game power. Here in our flashback about the run-up to declaration of martial law we go even further back to before the Succession Contest. At this point I'm starting to think someone saw the multilayered Harald/Loki/Rocks flashback in One Piece and decided he needs to one-up that. And wondering if we're going to actually cover the fallout in this batch.

Okay, I kid because we do see some of that this chapter. The forwards-backwards aspect of this run of chapters has actually been quite fun. And here we see an interesting ability out of Furykov. This nenputer lets him analyze other nen abilities and counteract them? Does that mean Furykov is an exorcist? I do like this theme among Benjamin's men that their abilities all revolve around support and they tend to be good at the basics when it comes to combat. Really gives Benjamin a lot of potential given his ability can keep theirs if they die. And of course, here we use it to delve into Beyond's curses which is neat. Really speaks for itself so what else do we have?

We also follow the thread from last chapter about Kurapika and Oito trying to get a letter out to best boys (plus Alluka!) Gon & Killua. I'm going to be honest, this felt rather redundant with an explanation given last chapter that felt like it covered what we need to know. They're going to use the "Yamato" script to encode the message, which is really just playing with fantasy Japanese being extremely good for something like that. Always a fascinating area of study in real-world applications. I love the history of the WW2 Navajo Code Talkers, same basic idea really. No one outside the US is gonna know the Navajo language, Japanese allows a lot of room for different readings and colloquial meanings hidden in phrases. It's got such a historical basis in our world because it is incredibly effective.

Otherwise, felt like we just saw a few steps into executing this plan. Cool panel here though with the split over Kurapika's face.

Oh hold up! Bisky! Well alright, we got a 10/10 chapter now folks. Not much out of our princess but it is an interesting dilemma for her given she's paired up with 13th Prince Maryam who has the weird alternate space thing going on. Obviously there's a need to comply with martial law...but do they really have to and should they? The longer Maryam stays completely out of all this, the better.

I do think it's interesting that the other side of that coin is that it also keeps Biscuit on the sidelines, given she's one of the most seasoned hunters involved in the Succession Contest. Very few people on this ship right now would stand a chance clashing with Bisky. As much as I get why they'd still try to stay out of things, curious to see what happens when she joins the fray.
