Kingdom Chapter 602 Review
No time for speech. No time to relax. It’s time for war! Seriously though, right from the very start, this chapter begins the intense climatic day without any time to waste. Then again, we have seen dozens of speeches and preparations prior to this day, so doing once more would seem redundant at this point. Nevertheless, the big day has begun and the chapter is littered with promises and cleverness, brought to you by Ousen, a man who claim victory with a single word.
As mentioned earlier, the day starts without a moment to embrace the calm; here come the perfect storm. I honestly thought I skipped a few pages or the release was missing some. The narrator did give a signal of the clash, comparing to a pistol that had gone off. I should have foreseen it, but it did hype me up. It just started and all hell break loose. There’s plenty of action shots to enjoy; tons of bodies flying and falling with Hi Shin Unit dominating the field. Just look at Shin leading his men in that tensed double-page spread; that’s a Great General in the making.
Ten explains the plan, or more like explain why the chapter started with men going all in like savages. Basically, they went back to the old strategy of no strategy (Yeah, I said it). Realistically, it’s a good head-start move since Ten wanted them to bull-rush the army and head straight for Riboku Centre Army. I mean if Ousen demands it, why fight it. This is the guy who can death stare a person to death. Not really, but I can imagine. However, this is the guy that changes the tactic in the midst of an established plan.
We don’t know much of how Ousen plans things, aside from the time he literally sat on the ground thinking, while his men in the background are fighting. So, the sudden move is rather surprising, but it goes to show you that no plan is written in stone. I got chills from the sight of Advance Army, led by Denrimi. They look like mercenaries; still fresh from lack of battle. Instead of waiting in which I thought that’s the case, we’re seeing the main course now. That’s how you escalate the hype, but it doesn’t stop there.
One of the most interesting detail is the two possible reasons for Ousen’s change of plan. It’s a good thing Ten is smart enough to be aware of the possibility and she saw two; one in which sounds very promising. The first one is reasonable, having Hi Shin Unit barges through Zhao Left Wing and distract Riboku while Ousen draws near to strike him for the kill. Sounds like the original idea; however, the second intention is where I place all of my hopes on.
The other option is to have Ousen Army to be the distraction and have Shin flank them after passing through the Left Wing. In short, Shin will kill Riboku. First of all, that sounds amazing for the mere fact that Shin will get the kill; something that he vowed to do so. Second, if he does kill Riboku, that’s a guaranteed for the Great General. No way in hell he won’t earn it if he does so. Lastly, if (and it’s a huge if) the second intention is true, then the idea of Ousen giving Shin a major kill is a huge honor. A Supreme Commander, let alone a member of Ou Family, granting a once nobody boy a major kill is like receiving the Holy Grail. I don’t know about you, but that sounds very promising.
The start of Ousen Army versus Riboku Army is a pretty good taste of what to expect. The collision is just crazy; it’s as if they are playing football without a ball and one side is taking the stabbing. Denrimi does a hand gesture, as if he’s casting a spell, but really, it’s to signal his men for Snake formation. I guess this is where a Shounen character would say, “So this is the Supreme Commander’s power…” As impressive that was, Riboku Army read it through quickly and defend with Halting Point formation. I like this because you can tell both side are veterans with well-thought out tactics and quick-on-their-feet change of plan. They waste no time to think over; they go as they format.
Because of great defense, Riboku’s head grew three sizes that day. Basically, I’m saying his ego has enlarged greatly. He’s playing defense mode until Qin wears out. Thanks to the lack of food and supplies that he has been targeting it for so long, he believes he got this victory in the bag. I mean look at that aura surrounding him; that’s a sign of a man who believe he has nothing to fear. About that…
The other most interesting piece and one that is a major slap in the face is the urgent news report. We don’t know what exactly, but when you read “Gyou,” you instantly know something major has happened. If that wasn’t enough, then the sudden change in formation from Riboku Army will do. That’s quite telling, considering the majority of his plan was playing defense. Now, he’s playing offense. Denrimi doesn’t have a clue on why, but Ousen, oh, you know damn well he does. That one remark “Fu” holds tons of value. The man got his target sweating, fearing for a loss. He hasn’t attack yet, but his one word is all I need to buy into his hype. He’s One Word Man.
Overall, this was a pretty good chapter. It’s the starting point, so the true epic proportion will have to wait a bit. It presented a demonstration of two top tier armies colliding and a couple of promises for the future. The art is pretty solid with the intensity rising with each passing action. The sudden reaction at the end escalated further, thanks to Ousen. This man is seriously about to make Riboku his you know what. If that’s not an example of “All according to Keikaku,” I don’t know what is.
