Sensui humbles Yusuke
Kurama being physically vulnerable in his Shuichi form actually has nothing to do with his physique because that body he's using is already demon in nature after he turned 10.
It's all about his youki. His youki, before he lost much of its strength and downgraded from the level of an A class, could be transformed into an armor. It's just like Sensui's which both of them recognized as true even if Sensui's was stronger.
So in the Dark Tournament, Kurama with a much weaker youki was basically fighting naked. His original fighting style with a spiritually conjured ki armor was risky because he relied on its defense to tank out the damage. He was willing to take hits just to plan his strategy but that (very old demon) habit came from when he had better defenses with a stronger demonic energy. His white clothing as youko only failed against Sensui because of their difference in power level with Sensui being S class. Kurama in the the Dark Tournament with his A class ki armor could probably take a hit from Toguro's 100% because Toguro was only Upper B class when Kurama used to be A class.
In post canon, however, it's safe to assume that Kurama surpassed A class already because his awakened youki (after witnessing Yusuke's death and revival) that made him able to shapeshift at will became stronger than before his peak in his previous life. His ki amor could have gotten stronger too. In conclusion, Kurama post canon is gonna be more unhinged and reckless in his suicide strategies. 😅
Sensui Shinobu: the manga villain who changed my life.
This may be an unpopular opinion but I believe in terms of arc quality,… 😅
I know everyone loves the Dark Tournament Arc (I do too!!) I just prefer Chapter Black because of the moral aspects of it 🤣
the parallels are NOT funny guys it drives me crazy
"we each care for one of the men out there."Dude
LIKE KUWABARA DOESNT EVEN DISMISS IT HES JUST LIKE "PFT OK WELL OBVIOUSLY BUT AT LEAST YUSUKE ISNT AS CRAZY AS SENSUI!"
also like can we talk about how kuwabara is yusukes guy on the sidelines commentating like this whole couple of chapters is kuwabara screaming URAMESHI!!!!!!!
and then dont even get mestarted on the last img attached ill die
one thing i wish happened in the chapter black arc is that the doctor wasnt able to be revived. not bc i wanted him dead per se, but because they put all this pressure on the fact that if yusuke wanted to stop him, hed have to kill him. but then they just fixed it up where it didnt happen so yusuke wouldnt have to dwell on it while trying to track down sensui and battle him.
but i WANT the dwelling. i want yusuke to deal with the fact that after killing all these demons, hes now killed a human for the first time. i want him to question the morality of it- not whether its okay to kill one person to save many others, but with the fact that hes made demon friends and has been shown through the course of the series that demons still have hopes, feelings, family, friends, and various other things just like humans do. they are not just mindless creatures hes been slaughtering, and while these times have been in self defense, the same can be said about his fight with the doctor.
plus, itd create tension because itd cause exactly what sensui wants: yusuke questioning his killings of demons, much like he himself has. though yusuke would defintely come to a different conclusion than "all humans should be eradicated." however itd make his shift during the three kings arc where he outright says that hed bring some humans for raizens messengers to eat to be less of a sudden change, because i dont think that would just be caused by him having his demon ancestry awakened in him. (though of course he doesnt state that hed be killing the humans to deliver to them, but still)
What’s the most disturbing episode of Yu Yu Hakusho for you?
As I reach the last few episodes of the Chapter Black arc... I find myself once again pondering Keiko’s character.
On the one hand... I do really like Keiko’s character. But I can’t help wishing she did a little more throughout the series. ‘Cause like... Shizuru is another 100% human character, and she never feels out of place like Keiko does.
But it doesn’t feel right to dismiss Keiko as yet another female shonen character who exists to be nothing more than a love interest... Because she does have so much personality. I can’t throw her in the ‘damsel in distress love interests’ category without there being this indignant shout from somewhere within my mind, bringing me back to Keiko running into Yusuke’s burning apartment to save his body... Keiko refusing to accept his cover story and forcing her way into the Dark Tournament arena to support him.
Like, it’s not even inherently a problem that she never really gets used to all the violence. She is fucking justified to be at her breaking point. The love of her life has now died more than once and is in a position where he’ll continue to throw himself into danger like this, and I sympathize with that.
This last arc really made me think about how they could have given Keiko more to do while keeping her exactly who she is. Chapter Black decided it wanted to address human evils, and who better to have a part to play in this arc than Keiko? Arguably the most human of them all, as she doesn’t even have Kuwabara and Shizuru’s 6th sense. Keiko, who’s always excelled at her studies and likely knows quite a bit about human wars and the awful things we’ve done to each other throughout history... Like, she doesn’t have any meaningful interactions with any of the human psychics who’ve decided to turn against their own kind... And that actually really sucks.
There was potential there.
