TEXT 📲 WILLIAM
RUFUS: 1) Are you hungry?
RUFUS: 2) What are you doing tomorrow?
Love, love, love your fan art! In addition to the beautiful work you've already done, I'd love to see a portrayal of William Ransom! Maybe the scene from an Echo in the Bone where he realizes Jamie is his father and that he's been lied to..?
Thank you so much for this prompt, dear Anon! I am a huge fan of William in the books, who I find to be so very much like Jamie as a young man - impetuous, reckless and stubborn are the qualities which come to mind! But he is also a product of his upbringing, and the scene in Echo which you describe is HUGE in terms of William’s character development. He is very literally confronted with the truth of his history, and there is no escape or denial possible.
I can only hope I’ve done it justice - mod Fiona
And here are some close ups :

Sam saves Kurt and fights the consequences
Adding in old fic
This takes place a little later in this ‘verse than other stories going around right now, but I wanted to go ahead and get it out there now that it’s written. Stories occurring before this one are still to be posted, so just keep that in mind.
Sam could feel Kurt’s fear the moment it started and he was at the scene only seconds after it had begun. He found Kurt surrounded by three or four jocks who clearly weren’t there for a friendly chat. He watched, seemingly in slow-motion as one the guys shoved Kurt, who lost his balance and fell backwards. Kurt’s head hit the corner of the dumpster behind him on the way down and he collapsed, unconscious on the ground with blood trickling out of his head wound.
Sam doesn’t remember much after that, only leaving all the jocks unconscious on the ground. He ended up in Kurt’s room with Kurt asleep on his bed and without any visible sign of a wound. Sam ran his fingers lightly through Kurt’s hair before giving in to the inevitable pull that had already started.
Sam was forcibly transported to the Archangel’s office. William was angrily pacing, while Mike, who Sam guessed was called in on his behalf, was looking worriedly at an image of Kurt sleeping where Sam had left him
“Sam, what on earth were you thinking? Revealing yourself to a non-charge? Using your powers on something outside your mission? Instantaneously transporting a human across a city? Healing them? These are all serious violations of our code.” Sam said nothing in response, only staring at the image of Kurt. “Well? Do you have anything to say in your own defense? Or have you just decided to abandon everything you’ve been taught with no explanation at all?”
“What else was I supposed to do?” Sam finally ground out, turning to William.
“You were supposed to stay out of it. Your job is to help Kurt Hummel find love, not fix every problem he ever encounters.”
Sam looked at the Archangel incredulously. “He was unconscious and bleeding from a head wound with a bunch of homophobic bullies around him. It wasn’t just aproblem, he could have died. How would I have helped him then?”
“You don’t know that Sam, and now we’ll never know what was meant to happen because you took it upon yourself to remake the world as you see fit. We have orders Sam, orders that are a lot more important than me or you or any one of your charges. And we all have to follow them or everything breaks down. That’s how it’s worked for thousands of years.”
“I don’t care. I wasn’t going to leave him there to die and I’d do it again if I had the chance.”
“Whoa, let’s all just calm down,” Mike said, jumping into the conversation. “Clearly this is an emotional moment. I’m sure if we all just take a few hours, then we can discuss this more rationally. After all, given Sam’s history, clearly this is a unique situation for him.”
“I don’t need any time to calm down. Nothing’s going to change my mind, so you should just go ahead and do what you need to do, sir.”
Will looked at Sam for a moment and seemed to consider his words before moving behind his desk. He waved his hand over it, creating a piece of paper with something already written on it. “Fine. Considering your actions and your lack of remorse, you are officially taken off Kurt Hummel’s case and banned from any contact with him or anyone who knows him. You are also banned from going to earth for three months and are assigned to a remedial ethics course to be completed before you can resume your duties.” Will signed the paper and waved it away to be filed.
“No. I quit.”
“Excuse me?”
“If this is the way we do things, if we’re supposed to care about the people we help except all the times when it’s not in our orders, I don’t want to do this, work here, whatever. I quit.” If Sam wasn’t ever going to see Kurt again, he’d rather go ahead and find out what the great beyond was really like rather than stay here, always close but never close enough.
Mike tried to appeal to Sam. “Sam, you can’t be serious, you’re not think straight, please just wait a little bit before making such a big decision.”
“I appreciate you being here, Mike, but I don’t need to think anymore. My mind’s made up.”
“Sam, do you understand what this means? If you’re not a Guardian Angel, you’ll be sent to the Beyond, based on your actions in your original life?”
“I understand.”
“Wait, wait! On Sam’s behalf, I’d like to appeal for a rehearing of his original punishment.” Sam and William both turned to Mike in surprise. “Given the severity of the punishment and the effect it’s going to have on Sam’s status, I think it’s a reasonable request.”
Will seemed to accept Mike’s argument. “Fair enough. The rehearing will take place 24 hours from now in front of three senior Archangels. Sam, I assume you’ll want to wait to make your decision until after the rehearing?”
Sam, for the first time since he arrived, seemed unsure of what was going on. “Uh, yeah. I guess so.”
“Very well. I’ll see you both then.” At that, Sam mouthed a silent ‘thank you’ to Mike and left to go check on Kurt. If he only had 24 hours left, he’d prefer to spend it with Kurt than anywhere else anyway.
Once Sam left, William changed his posture, sliding down in his chair and rubbing his face with his hands. “I really do like the kid, Mike. It’s not like I wanted to do any of this. My hands are tied.”
“You know that that’s exactly how he died though? He was murdered by a gang of homophobic thugs. It’s not really surprising he’d act that way.”
“I know. These final assignments aren’t just chosen at random, they’re meant to test your weaknesses. A Guardian Angel can’t get emotionally invested the way he has with this Kurt Hummel. Normally we would just send him back for more training, but we can’t do that if he can’t accept that he’s done something wrong.”
“Do you think there’s any chance the rehearing will have a different result?”
“No they’re bound by the same rules I am. I really only granted it in the hopes that Sam would change his mind between now and then and accept the punishment.” Will paused but then added, “Well there is one exception, but it has to come from Sam. I can’t tell you anything about it.”
“Ok, well let’s hope this works out one way or another. Thanks for your help, William. I’ll see you at the rehearing.” With that, Mike disappeared, leaving William alone with his thoughts.
