30 DAY CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT MEME - Day 4

((Wow. I can't even keep a 30-day meme going for three days. Let's pick up where we left off, shall we? The questions, for those who would like to play along at home, can be found HERE.))

Day 4:

Favorites and habits: What are some of your character’s hobbies? What do they do with their time? Mory spends most of her days off from Priory work taking dance lessons in Divinity's Reach or working on sewing projects. 

Favorite color? Sky blue. Favorite music artists? Movies or TV shows? Books or authors? Actors? Despite her friends' best efforts to provide her with better quality reading material, Mory is very fond of extremely trashy romance novels.

Political stance? Are they active in politics or do they not care? Mory doesn't really understand politics. Being polite to people you don't like is just good manners, but as far as she can tell, "politics" involves actively going to parties that you know will be full of people you can't stand, and then trying to insult them to their faces in a way so subtle and clever that they can't call you on it without losing face themselves. A good exercise for the wits, maybe, but certainly not anything she's interested in. What are some of their pet peeves? Being ignored/not taken seriously. Loud, pushy people.  What sort of gifts do they like? Mory generally feels a little guilty about accepting gifts. She'll never turn down free food, though. What is their favorite time of day? Favorite weather? Season? First thing in the morning on a sunny spring day. (Rain is a close second. It smells nice, and it's good for her leaves.) Where do they like to spend their time? Nagi's house. She is absolutely certain it's enchanted somehow, since she's always finding rooms she hasn't been in before. (Also, Nagi lives there, which is a plus.) Favorite food? Favorite drink? Hot drinks, soft drinks, or alcohol? Mory prefers the relatively simple flavors of norn cuisine to anything she's tried in Divinity's Reach. Hearty stews, a good roast moa leg, all the ale she can drink (which, admittedly, isn't much)...  Her favorite drink in the world is mead, and she isn't sure why it isn't more popular in the Grove. Maybe there aren't enough bees there to make that much honey? Favorite animal? Anything soft and fuzzy. She's read about a sort of mountain rabbit (or is it a mouse?) that has such thick grey fur that it can't live anywhere too warm, and she hopes to touch one of them someday. Do they have any pets? Do they want any? She's trained a few animals for the Priory, but the only one that's stuck around is her beloved furball lynx, Beanie. What relaxes them? Hot baths. Do they have any bad habits? Tends to rush into things, and rarely takes any advice given to her.

30 DAY CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT MEME - Day 3

Day 3: Choose a different time period and describe what your character would have been like in that time period.

To be honest, I'm really not well-versed enough in Guild Wars lore to place Mory into a different period of Tyrian history...so I'm going to use this as an excuse to talk about modern human!AU Mory~

thisgolddolyak and I can't stop thinking up headcanons for Mory and Whys as a figure skating duo. Mory just wants to spin and twirl and wear pretty costumes. Whys wants to take gold in every single event, and make Feih jealous that he's skating with someone who isn't him. THEY FIGHT CRIME TRAIN FOR THE OLYMPICS! ...and fight. All. The. Time. The audience can feel the passion!...because they're usually about thisclose to murdering one another. 

Also, pretty much everyone in this AU ships Whys/Mory except for Whys and Mory.

30 DAY CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT MEME - Day 2

Day 2: How do they usually dress? Mory likes very formal clothing in the human style, since she learned most of her tailoring skills in Divinity's Reach. Most of her outfits are ones that she has sewn herself. They usually feature a heavy, close-fitting bodice, long sleeves, a long flowing skirt, and as much embroidery and embellishment as she can fit onto the garment without it looking completely over-the-top tacky.

What do they wear to sleep? Originally nothing at all, but she has picked up a taste for silky sleepwear from her girlfriend Nagi. If she is staying somewhere cold, rather than put on heavier pajamas she will just roll herself up in more fur blankets like she's making a big fluffy cocoon.

Do they wear jewelry? A necklace, if anything. She prefers to add metallic clasps and jeweled accents to her clothing instead of wearing a lot of extra jewelry. Avoids bracelets because she doesn't want to call attention to her arms.

Is there anything about their appearance they wish they could change? She wishes she weren't quite so tall, since most of her sylvari friends are much shorter than she is and it makes her feel awkward. Hanging out in Hoelbrak helps her regain her confidence, since everyone there is easily twice her height.

How would they look as the opposite sex? Gangly and boyish: the typical wiry young sorcerer type. 

What do they smell like? Why (do they wear the scent or does it occur naturally)? Like lilies (with a bitter green undertone of freshly spilled sap if she has been doing a lot of necromancy).

Do they have an accurate mental picture of their appearance (how they see themselves versus how the world sees them)? She is a little insecure, but otherwise sees herself accurately.

30 Days of Character Development, Days 17 & 18

17.) What’s your character’s desk/workspace look like? Are they neat or messy?

Perfectly neat and organized. Often feels the need to straighten up other people's desks, which is usually not an excuse for snooping. Usually.

To keep her compulsive fussing in check, Mory has placed herself in charge of keeping the armory well-organized, even though she still isn't quite sure what some of the more exotic weapons in their stockpile actually do. 

18.) Is your character a good cook? What’s their favorite recipe, whether they’re good or not? (Microwave mac-and-cheese applies.)

BAHAHAHA no. Mory's anxiety regarding alchemy has extended itself to any other activity where ingredients might be combined, leading to bitter coffee, burnt baked goods, and dinners that could easily double as the Guard's new source of poison traps. She can make tea, and can cook a few simple breakfasts like porridge, or eggs and bacon, but for anything more complicated she has to go join Yra in making puppy eyes at Zor.

30 Days of Character Development, Days 15 & 16

15.) Is your character an early morning bird or a night owl? 

Rise and shine, Tenebutts! It's another wonderful day for espionage! Or assassinations! Or whatever it actually is that we do around here! 

Moryera is an insufferable morning person. Even before she started trying to give up sleep completely, she was usually awake before everyone else. She used to get the coffee going for whoever else might have slept at the base the night before, but had to be gently told to stop because her coffee is just that terrible.

16.) Are there any blood relatives that your character is particularly close with, besides the immediate ones? Cousins, Uncles, Grandfathers, Aunts, et cetera. Are there any others that your character practically considers a blood relative?

The downside to being a family of human alchemists is that the Thornes generally die young, from illnesses caused by long-term exposure to dangerous potion ingredients. Mory has no living family in Asmodae that she knows about, and she is too frightened to go chasing after her mother in Elysea. There's really no need, though: the Tenebrous Guard is her family now.

13.) What does your character’s bed look like when he/she wakes up? Are the covers off on one side of the bed, are they all curled around a pillow, sprawled everywhere? In what position might they sleep?

Moryera avoids sleeping as long as she can get away with it, because when she picked up an understanding of fear magic, she also picked up chronic horrible nightmares. When she can't will herself to stay awake any longer and she hasn't managed to find an effective aetheric charm for dreamless sleep (it's easy to find fakes, much harder to find anything that actually works), her bed ends up with blankets and pillows strewn everywhere and occasionally a few burn marks from casting magic in her sleep. It's a miracle she hasn't burned anyone's house down yet.

14.)  How does your character react to temperature changes such as extreme heat and cold? 

Between her slim figure and her tiny poof of a mane, Mory is almost always too cold. She has a small collection of ugly but warm larail-fur winterwear, and one actual fancy fur (a gift from Bustle, who was personally offended by the lurid green monstrosity Mory was calling a coat). The sun doesn't usually bother her unless she finds herself in the hottest of Elysean deserts.

12.) How is your character with technology? Super savvy, or way behind the times? Letters or email?

Mory keeps up with the latest developments fairly easily. In fact, she's so young that it's the older technology that gives her the most trouble. Luckily, most of her legion is significantly older, so she has someone to run to when a device or artifact makes her think "I haven't seen one of these since we went through Great-Grandfather's attic looking for his old alchemy books. How am I even supposed to use this?"

10.) Can you define a turning point in your character’s life? Multiples are acceptable. 

When she decided to join Zoreth in turning against the Shadow Court. Not that it was much of a decision, mind you. She was already quite attached to her new mentor, and even she could tell the Court didn't think too highly of her. (They sent an expert assassin to keep tabs on a fledgling, for Marchutan's sake. Who does that?)

11.) Is there an animal you equate with your character?

Bluebirds! Aside from her birdlike features and her tendency to always be talking and singing, Mory's wings have the same grey and blue plumage as a female bluebird.
