I can't believe we've swung round so far from my initial fear that the fallout of Eddie and Ozzie's relationship would lead them both to cut off from their emotions and become cold-hearted

To BOTH OF THEM literally coming to accept and embrace their heart/feelings as a part of them they cannot, should not and don't want to escape/reject

And not just because of each other as well, it's something each of them discovered about themselves on their own via multiple relationships/experiences (eg. Ozzie with Sofia and Martin and Eddie with Lee and Grundy)

Gotham crit about Ozzie being selfish/greedy with his food and working his men too hard as ooc for him cos it's not smart -

Eh, I don't have time to properly meta, but I'm cool with it

I feel like the show has been showing him bit by bit lose his smarts to his... various growing passions/angers/fears for a good while now

So it works for me him being so beaten down by his life experiences that each time he gains a level of power he just starts to snatch at the personal benefits of it hungrily while he can and fuck anyone else (excepting the individuals he deeply cares about)

Like, his suffering has made him want to be cruel to people, so sometimes he'll relish the thrill of doing that over more strategic planning, relish the thought of others facing the kind of pain (and in this case hunger) he suffered in life while he no longer suffers it

It fits well enough with Ozzie's Gotham character for me

but this is an excellent observation I agree with about Ozzie’s queer love ultimately being presented as heroic and redemptive, while it’s Eddie’s (supposedly) het love for Izzy that is villainous and destructive

Yeah honestly that’s how I interpreted that as well, i mean he's not used to having people care about him and he's also not experienced with romance and reationships in general, so i think it's normal to go from 0 to 1000 for him real quick? And i think that's what Robin was meaning by sayinf that, even though of course i can't be sure

Like, he went straight from Jim not killing him to ‘he must be my BFF!’ after all :p He’s so unused to experiencing and feeling love that even just a little bit must feel like THE STRONGEST LOVE THAT CAN EVER BE EXPERIENCED!

no no, he CAN’T have meant THAT?

esp. not after THIS TWEET he made after the recent episode - because surely that was about reinforcing the idea that Ozzie’s feelings REALLY ARE ROMANTIC?

his talk about Ozzie NOT feeling “true love” is, granted, CONFUSING

but I can’t believe Robin meant that Oz doesn’t have romantic feelings for Ed AT ALL

I feel like maybe what he was getting at was that, like he said, because of the vulnerable place Ozzie is in emotionally atm he would have fallen in love with ANYONE who’d been kind to him

and if he wasn’t in such a vulnerable state it’s possible (probable?) he might not have fallen for Ed

ergo, he’s not in love with Ed specifically because Ed is necessarily the perfect match or “The One” for him, is all

so like... I don’t think he’s trying to say Ozzie isn’t LEGIT IN LOVE 

just that Ed isn’t Ozzie’s “true love” in the sense that Ed isn’t, like, a soulmate or anything, you know? that Ozzie’s love for him is conditional on the very particular circumstances in which they found themselves together

BUUUT - that Oswald himself has elevated Ed into this mythical “true love” persona who has, like, been guided to him by fate or something :p 

because being so emotionally fragile, Oz’s feelings for Ed have therefore been experienced much more keenly and deeply, and this has led him to view Ed as the ONLY PERSON HE COULD EVER AND WILL EVER LOVE ROMANTICALLY (an idea surely compounded by Gertrude’s misguided claim that ‘you only get one true love in your life,’ and perhaps also Gertrude and Elijah’s love story in which THEIR only genuine romantic relationship was seemingly with each other - all of which supports the idea that you can only ever have ONE ‘true’ romantic relationship in your life)

soooo, yeah, something like that maybe?
