@pixeldistractions left a comment on the last post of the previous chapter that raised some interesting points, so I figured I'd answer in a public post. 😊
I'm almost done writing the next chapter, which, as I promised, will shine a light on James' thoughts and feelings about all this and about Sadie, too. I will still need to shoot it, so give me another two weeks or something (at least...). However, some things won't be addressed in that chapter either, and it might be good to explain them now.
What happened after the kiss?
Ah yes, of course it's right to wonder if that kiss led to "other activities" (I'm carefully choosing my words not to be flagged down 😉). The answer to that is, no, it didn't. So no, the next chapter will not start with some steamy hotel room scene (sorry to disappoint some people :P). Considering both James' history and issues with acting on lust and physical attraction, and Dante's previous experiences, this would definitely not be something either of them would get into lightly at this point. Let us, for now, assume this kiss may have led to some more kisses, but nothing further than that.
Is this just sympathy from James' perspective? Like the comforting touches?
Hmm... I can say that James is emotionally aware enough to know, especially after that last kiss and the conversation they have since had, that Dante would read a lot into a kiss. And he doesn't want to hurt Dante. So, this is not something driven by impulse. James gave this some thought and there are definitely emotions involved, which he will talk about (with someone) in the next chapter.
But then... What about Sadie...?
Sadie is still a significant factor. What James said a few days prior to this kiss, during that nighttime conversation, about nothing comparing to his feelings for Sadie, that is not now suddenly irrelevant. Does that make it even worse that he kissed Dante? Maybe. I will ask for a little more patience, and let's cut James some slack. He'll explain. It will become clear.
Next chapter is coming! I had a writing marathon last Sunday and wrote 11 scenes, which is almost the entire chapter in one day. I am rounding it up now and will then shoot. Getting there.
