The tattoo of the West Wind which got the additional power of water to those who bear it. It will be handed down within the same family but always to the person who proved themselves worthy.  The tattoo of the North Wind which brings additional earth powers to its bearer has been passed down from parent to child. It doesn’t necessarily mean the oldest child will get it but most of the time it works this way.

Leo couldn’t ever get rid of the aftertaste of talking to angels. There wasn’t an specific way to explain it, and all words fell short if listed. You couldn’t explain much of a heavenly presence. It was just insistent and he could just imagine what’d feel like after Gabriel left his body—all that overwhelming his five senses—and feel a little dizzy. Or tipsy; it could be the beer making him hypersensitive. Leo had never been able to hold his liquor.

It itched at the back of his head, couldn’t lie about it. He felt the hairs stand on end at the nape and the smell up in his nostrils—shit, that Christ-forsaken smell. That whiff of foreign and wrong and forbidden that made his knees crave the pavement and curl toward it. The odor of Pack, of Not His Pack, of Overstepping—it was a wolf thing. Contrary to that needless popular belief, wolves were naturally respectful; Logan wasn’t. Wolves were naturally mindful of violating the limits and jolting into another pack’s territory; Logan wasn’t. He couldn’t give a shit for respectful or mindful and that’d probably be his downfall, but who cares? He was there to impress a pretty girl. Maybe even get to a base finer than second.

Ask any experienced somebody and they’ll tell you: disaster begins with something infinitesimally smaller, something unspectacular and forgettable. It’s the development of a fissure the size of a fingernail incision. From then on, whether hell breaks loose quickly or progressively, depends on the hand’s stress against the body and the body’s ability to endure.

In lieu of a response, pensive air settled between them for around a minute. Matthew traced circles with his middle finger against the tabletop, allowing Sergio to resume his inspection in peace as something yet unnamed pulled the strings behind the look in his eyes. Beneath his print, he felt scratches on the wood, nose catching on the faint scent of his partners’ cologne, brows twitching a little upwards at the middle as he felt the taste of a conclusion he’d long gotten hold with as much effort as a preschooler made use of to paint on their own face.

“Jacob,” he said finally, “you’re looking at Jacob.” He took his ballpoint and opened the file in front of him, more so to add to his exasperated father look than to actually do something he’d not done the first five or so minutes of their meeting. “Jacob Derane. Firefighter. My nephew. Single, as far as I know – just in case you wanted the information.”

The water was pretty like this –  or maybe it just wasn’t as bad as usual. Depends on how you see things. You could blame the darkness of it on the night and not on the filth, which is what it had in its favor at this given hour. On top of it, moonglow and street lamps speckled the black surface with fragmented reflections of light, swaying alongside the current. It was pretty, maybe; you could call it pretty. But it would be prettier if he were ignorant to the fact there were dead bodies at the bottom.

No figure of speech. There were dead bodies. To be more specific, parts of dead bodies stuffed into garbage bags with rocks inside. Otherwise, they’d float, and the view would falter, as so would the overall smell of their surroundings. But these were drunken realizations for you – or rather, memories coming back to get him. He found it funny in a twisted way; just another thing that distanced him from his companion: his life had been dedicated to getting those bodies inside. Forget happiness and definitely forget love. But don’t forget the corpses.
