Character reimagining of the week: Duke Orsino from Twelfth Night
Twelfth Night is a very musical play, so why not set it in the Swing Era? Starring Duke Orsino as a singer/influential jazz club guy. Plus (unpopular opinion?) he's always struck me as a little too dull for someone as clever as Viola... but if he had an easy Sinatra charm I can definitely see why she'd fall for him.
Character reimagining of the week: Petruchio from The Taming of the Shrew
Here's the shew-tamer as an Arrow Collar Man type: suave, glamorous, in the roaringest of the 20s. In the last scene, I'd love to see him not triumphant but heartsick and guilty, having broken the only woman who could ever have matched him.
